in the above review, from The Daily Telegraph, for the MPS 6 the author states
Is he serious? the TC AWD Saloon market in OZ has a high demand for Autos?
thre are a couple other statements that make me question his experience

It comes only as a six-speed manual which is its first, and probably only, mistake. An auto is a definite in its market.

The clutch take-up is a bit severe, causing a few stalls at the traffic lights. That may diminish as the car ages.

I think if you take the two comments together, he obviously can't drive a stick shift very well, and would have had a lot more fun if it was an auto.

"The Tele is most often found lining your cockies cage or as emergency supplies in the dunny".
Yep fair dinkum, that blokes a "bogan tool"!

To translate ( ), the Tele is a crappy tabloid. The motoring section is really just an excuse for classified ads and advertorial type journalism.
That being said, Mazda Australia seems to want to pitch the 6 MPS into a classier market segment (than say, the WRX) and in that endeavour it will be hampered by the lack of an auto (whatever we enthusiasts might think of slushboxes). You only have to see how many of the more powerful Liberty's are sold with auto transmissions to understand that.

BTW, he's right about the clutch on the 6 MPS. I'm sure you'd get used to it and adapt, but having test driven the car twice, I found it a PITA
