Unhappy Oh whoa is me :-(

Today Max got smacked by a Green Falcon My first ever accident and it was a rear ender....

I was sitting at the lights at a busy intersection and a young p plater forgot to keep his foot on the brake and ran into the back of me.

Only a little bump, similar to when you stall in first, but whoa has it done some damage...

Took the car to Alpine Crash at Klemzig, they seem like a good bunch of blokes. I have been endowed with a critical eye for detail. I saw the scratch on my new custom plates...not really evident but I saw it. Well the guy that I spoke to saw it too as well as the fact the bumper has flexed and rippled. He reckons I need a whole new bumper and any ancillary bits that help to hold it on...and a new plate....

Anyhow the guy that hit me is apparently insured and so I hope it will be a painless process. I have had such a crap week and this just caps it off. Feeling sorry for myself now totally. Had just washed and polished the car on Sunday after seeing the great shots of the Black one at the Uni on the .com.au site.

The only good thing is at least the damage is not major, my neck is not sore...as it's already stuffed and the car can be fixed. I tell you what though I will be after this guys ***** if he's spun me any sh*%t!!

I got a tiny tap rearender within the first couple of months too. They will need to replace the bumper - it's not amenable to repair.

Hope it gets sorted out okay Julia.

Thanks for that guys. Yup hope to be there....may not be fixed by then though...

I tell you what though Shannons have been really helpful and patient with telling me what needs to be done. The assessor comes tomorrow morning to look at the car and then it should get done by the end of next week or the beginning of the next week.

Now after talking to this kid again I am going to get his nads on a plate... 20 year boy with NFI..

Over the phone he's such a smart ****....hasn't put a claim in and won't discuss his insurance details.....so it's over to Shannon's and I will forget all about it. The interesting thing is one of the girls in my office called me that morning asking if I was ok as her husband saw the accident happen. He was on the other side of the intersection and saw the whole thing unfold...so now I have a witness as well should I need one...

What's the go though legal eagles...I have to hire a car for 2 days while mine is off the road...I have to apparently claim for this from him or his insurance however he's now decided not to play ball. SILLY BOY. So I am assuming that I will ask Shannon's for help getting the details I need to send the invoice on. It's just annoying as it's an out of pocket expense for me that I cannot afford at the moment...kitchen....wedding.....and I don't want to have to fight to get this re-imbursed....

Don't think that I can take the Alfa with the roll cage and locked diff to work..novel as it might be!

It's not till it happens do you realise how much of a pain this is!

I take it your own insurance doesn't cover the cost of a hire car?

(This is a good thing to check in all your policies - it's often an expense left out of the cover and can be a big one if you need a car for an extended period).

Yes, Shannons should give you some advice on where to send the invoice to. Hopefully, his insurer will cover him for it and that's easy. If not, you'll need to send it to him direct.

The little grub will ignore it of course and then you need to decide whether you could be bothered suing his little *** in the SA equivalent of our small claims division of the Local Court. This can all be done by you without a lawyer and the court staff are usually very helpful. Check out the web and you'll probably find some sites dealing with the recovery of small amounts.

Of course, depending on the amount, you'll probably find it's not worth the trouble. Even if you do get judgment against him, you then need to enforce it and that can be problematic if he has next to no assets or has no income you can garnishee.

Personally, if it was just a couple of days hire of a little runabout (say $50 per day), I'd put it down to bad luck and not bother. Up to you.

Thanks for that....yup thought as much. I spoke to Shannon's today they were great again. They say none of their policies cover you for a car while your car is in getting fixed. They only cover you if it gets stolen. They suggested using a crashie with loan cars and then they can go after him as this will be in the invoice from the crash repairer. It's so worth checking your insurance closely.....I have learnt a valuable lesson.

The assessor came out today and looked at the car and said he would be surprised if there wasn't more damage behind the bumper... He was a really nice guy and gave a lot of compliments about the car...he was off to see a sick Ferrari that had been t-boned...quote was $25000+

I tell you what he said something very wise. Some people just don't care about other peoples property. It's how they are brought up. This kid has no respect...one day he will get his.

I'm not bitter.....MUCH!!

Thanks again for all the advice..it's nice to know I'm among friends here!

Sorry to hear about your car's rear. It must be the attractive curves of the RX-8 because I had two rear-endings in my first year.

I only had my RX-8 for 3 weeks before it was off the road for a week after being rear-ended whilst parked at my son's Kindy. I was inside at the time and not best pleased when told. Panel beating and some minor parts only plus repainting.

Second time I was stationary in traffic and rear-ended by a ute that wasn't paying attention and braked too late. Week off-the road and complete rear bumper replacement this time.

I think you can reasonably expect repairs to take at least a calendar week. It generally takes a week as you have to allow for parts to be ordered/delivered, fitted, and other repairs (panel beating etc) and then painting takes the longest. On both occasions the repair place weren't happy with initial paint results and redid final coat again adding a day.

Don't accept the car back until it's as good as new.

For the record I'm with Suncorp and have rental car option which I used both times.

Thanks everyone :-)

I spoke to the crash repairer yesterday. The guy there asked me if I would like an auto or manual Festiva for the time my car is with them...I went the auto....no only jokin...went the manual!! Can't wait for the torque handling and performance of that one!

Seems that they have ordered all the parts and will have them there by the time the car goes in all bits should be on and painted. 2 days in a Festiva will be about all I can cope with

Car won't be fixed by the Rotor Cruise.....but it will be disguised.

If I ever see that kid again which is highly likely in little old Adelaide I may have to be restrained. Maybe I should resurect my old Valiant wagon and give him a taste of his own medicine!!

Or you could cheer yourself up by seeing what lap time you can set at Mallala in "the loaner".
