The keyless control module (which is the brains of the immobilisation system in the RX-8) supplies an enable signal to the PCM (engine computer) which in turn controls the starter, the fuel injection and the ignition system.

So.....in summary, the immobiliser cuts, fuel, ignition and the starter motor.

Gomez.

HDs8, as all of us here share a morbid fear of losing our cars, any insight as to how yours was stolen would be appreciated.

Sorry for your loss......welcome to the forum, BTW

Ive actually been reading through these forums for a while but havent posted much, posted a few times on the .au site.

but pretty much i dropped a friend off and came back home. parked the car at the back like i always do and went to bed. next morning it was gone, noone seen anything. my area is notorious for car theft..its insured under market value too, 43.5...the insurance company dont replace cars and plus the immobiliser thing is getting me worried...

Thanks Gomez,

Just called the Mazda customer service number and they confirmed it is deffinately a 2 point, if not a 3-point.

PS. When my insurance settles i will deffinately be looking for another black rx8, so if you know one in good condition etc.

Thanks
HD

Glad to hear you figured it out.

If you ever find out how they pinched it - I would appreciate a PM, which I can circulate to trusted people (i.e. not publicly in case prospective thieves are watching).

Hehe well i wouldnt take that bet also since i live in the heart of it.

Just have to be carefull of some places you go

i.e i refuse to goto fairfield as its the biggest shithole. Unless i have to see my doctor i dont go, the recent shootings should give you an indication why i dont go hehe.

Well done Gomez, a self confessed shifty bastard, giving advice on car security and then distribution of details to trusted friends.
At least this shows people still want our cars

Oh that's going to make HDs8 feel just great...

I like the new Avatar... Sometimes my weeks are like this - other times I can see hundreds of other people holding the boulder using stick and I am trying to drive a nice shiny bulldozer up the ramp to push the rock to the top of the hiill - but I can't decide if I can run over the other people too...

[ot] if you just keep driving the bulldozer up the hill, you'll be amazed how either (a) the people will themselves push the boulder to the top; or (b) they'll get out of the way at the last moment and let you push it. The secret is not to drive too fast -- then they'll think you're a control freak!

BTW, where do you get bulldozers?? [/ot]

Yeah, I was a bit wary on telling HDs8 about the last one...but he seems more focussed on claiming his insurance

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. I must say, I am more disturbed that joyriders seem to have the technology or whatever to steal the 8; I'd always expect that a professional, 'stealing to order' would be able to get the car

Strafing with well aimed machine gun fire also gets results.

As for theft - they want it bad enough - they'll get it.

I want to understand how it is done. It is extremely difficult to knock one off quickly if you don't have a key or a truck.

I just bought an '04 RX-8

The Ford Dealer sold me an aftermarket alrm system called THE SILENCER

Ever heard of it? They said it is connected like 7 ways. it has a passive ignition cut off.

Is it better than the stock alarm?

Oh, I agree (see my earlier post). I'm just making the point that if your car is being targeted by someone who knows what they're doing it is extremely hard to stop them without going to enormous lengths.

I'm tipping (pardon the pun) that a flat bed truck is the way they're doing it. How they're managing that without waking the owner is the mystery.
