Cool Mazda sponsorship for the RX-8 Nationals

Timbo, with so many participants nominated for the Nationals, you would think that Mazda would be begging you to pay for everything...

Think of the media campaign - the zoom zoom kids (bunch of smaller kids on bikes, pedal cars and scooters) grow up and meet again at Wakefield to zoom zoom for a weekend in their "dream" car - the RX-8.. These are no street racers (picture of pimply WRX driver with huge red "X" over the whole car) -

Let me see: Now we need actors ->

GOMEZ - played by "Pa" Kettle
LOCK & LOAD - played by Rutgeur Hauer
MissRX8 - played by Danni Minogue (sorry - I always liked Danni better)
Taka - played by Jackie Chan (Finance director's favourite)
Hymee - played by John Wayne
Wildcard - played by Clint Eastwood (based on the crash takling the would be thief through the window)
SCO - played by John Cleese (as the guy who was James Bond's gadget person)
Revolver - Definately Charlton Heston (America needs guns - Orstralia needs 'em too)

xxup - played by Jean Reno (Not the best looker - just cunning in a deliberate way)

I need a role for Tim Curry - who plays the most fantastic evil person... Unfortunately I have not met everyone.. Any suggestions??

Personally, John Candy, but I think he's "otherwise booked".

^^^^ ROFL. Good call.

Actually, I think I should be played by Dick Gautier.

And Rowan Atkinson would make a good sco.

Funny thread, but in all seriousness, I reckon we can do a great job on our own, and use that as sponsorship "leverage" for next year.

Someone needs to reserve a domain name. I could offer "ozzierx8nats.hymee.com" as part of my sponsorship if someone wanted to maintain the site. (or something like that) Even a .au is possible.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Guys spoke to Mazda head office about our RX8 EDUCATIONAL TRAINING DRIVE DAY :D , they said they would consider some form of involment and get back to me on how they may get involved .

No doubt they will check this thread and realise our good intentions for a great day of motoring .

I think that we have a D. Devito on the forum already. So maybe D. Devito could play D. Devito? Slight height difference, but you can't have everything...

Recieved a phone call from Mazda head office the other morning they are conducting their own Eastern creek driver training day towards the years end and are NOT interested in getting involved in our Wakefield National educational drive day .

Anthony will post details of Mazdas Official Eastern creek drive day on our forum at a later date , Anthony was polite and he would make an excellent politician avoiding a few questions i asked him regarding the rumoured Mazdaspeed RX8 the next possible RX7 etc .( A WELL TRAINED COMPANY MAN )

I am not suprised they didnt want to get involved nor dissapointed that they arent

Taka its still 104 days from the date of the Wakefield meet and your Adredalin is running at full speed :D

Perhaps you should have sold it to Mazda as the inaugural National RX-8 Club of Australia meeting rather than just a track day for RX-8 enthusiasts.

Mike/All,

I've promised Tim that I'll have a crack as well. I'm a Marketing guy and to secure support from Mazda or anyone we have to show that we are providing a value to them. Remember we have already bought the cars and are unlikely repeat purchasers in the near future and have not yet given them any compelling reason to spend bucks. ( I used to sell beer and we sponsored the odd thing or two!!)

I'll draft a plan and some letter's/ contacts etc and via Tim with his approval, let rip. Been busy so it will be over the weekend, am off to Melbourne for the week and should have the odd hour spare!!

Mike I know you have the gift of the gab so would hope you can help out once we get a few nibbles.

In short the plan is to hit a list of magazines and TV editors/authors/producers and a couple of freelance, as well as the weekend press/ "Drive" etc. (Remember we have an "engine of the year" and multiple "car of the year". There are definitely "enthusiast" & "human" interest angles. Far more so than 7's cause in the main we are ordinary blokes with families etc (plus the occasional female member, Kal you spring to mind and add a whole additional profile)

Once we have a support base, go back to Mazda, Whiteline and everyone else we can think of and say...we have X media support. You really sure you don't want to contribute???

I may completely fail of course, but I'll give it a good shot.

Mike

Mazda support the MX-5 club of Australia. They provide postcards in every new MX-5 advertising the club. This year each state president and the national president was flown to Melbourne for the unveiling of the new MX-5. Representatives of the MX-5 clubs around the world (including 2 from Australia) were flown to Hawaii for the launch of the new MX-5.

Mazda will support us and help us to promote an RX-8 Club if they believe it is beneficial to the brand and will help build a community to promote and ultimately continue the sales of RX-8s in Australia.

What that support is may not be coughing up cash. What would be good is getting them to send out advertising of this event to all RX-8 owners nationally. Having Mazda representatives at the event, maybe a Q&A or a panel / discussion group.

Maybe I'm the only one that would like a formal RX-8 Club that is an actual organisation rather than just a collection of people on a message board. If I am not then we should be pushing this "Nationals" as more than just a track day.

Draco,

I'm with you on all points, I think there was some reluctance to go "huge" year one and I think that's a good idea.

Think the club is a good idea, I belong to one in NZ and it also gets support.

I wouldn't underestimate the "enthusiast" day either though, lots of clubs start out that way!

I'll pm you my email, sounds like a starter as part of a team! Since I can't spend time "preping my car I may as well do something useful!

General rotary club, am about to joino the Northern Sports Car Club, has more structure. Rotor Dynamic has a lot of members but more a show and shine than sport. Most of the 7's belong to the FD Kai club which is pretty hard core. Reasonably big racing community hear.

To be honest, I don't understand their f&*king problem really. All we need is some lazy representative to come down, say hi, take a few picture, enjoy the day and go home.

All they need to do is to bring some caps, back packs, and pens that lie around in the office unused, prepare to bring a cameraman and write a few words in the next Mazda Magazine

It is really their lost to get more sales.

When timbo has secured the track, I will invite the editor of Motor, Wheels, Carsguides, and Drive to come and just take pictures and interviews. We need publicity.

Taka, if you're going to do that then I won't bother doing anything.....we are going to all look a bit bloody stupid all going off half assed!! I've already volunteered to do that read my post!

If you want "crap" I'm sure they will be happy to send that stuff, and I have no idea why you would want a franchise manager taking snaps for some magazine you will never read.

As someone who used to get about 40 sponsorship requests a week, I think they very reacted predictably.

haha

The kind of doctor that no one wants to meet :D

If I am nice, I stick a big needle to your back to get some bone marrow.

Or

I stick a needle to your wrist to get blood.

Or

Even if I don't like you, I cut up your cancer specimen on the table or cutting you and pulling you apart after you dropped dead in the toilet :D
