...where'd u hear about 235/45's being the standard? That's a fairly big change in profile. it's enough to give u the off-road tank look.

235/45 would throw the speedo off considerably unless it's been calibrated accordingly.
And yes, it would look like a 4WD.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but its time to get new tyres.
The stocky Bridgestones are up for replacement. In reading the other threads i can see 225/25/18's are rare and expensive, so i am contemplating 235/40/18 (don't want to go to 245)
I am after a tyre that has pretty decent performance, don't want cheap rubbish tyres.
Have had quotes of
$395 Michellin Pilot (225)
$375 Pirelli Dragons (235)
$375 Dunlop Sport 01 (235)
$289 Maxis MAZ1 (235)
$489 Pirelli P0 (235)
Anyone have any thoughts comments on the above. If there are others that you would highly recommend any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have been known drive quite spirited when the occasion calls so want a decent tyre, something at least as good if not better than the RE040's.
Cheers.

I'm not counting the 0.1 of a second or anything at the same time however. Worried that the P0 will only last about 20K.
Have managed to get 40K out of the Bridgestones, my wife drives reasonably sedately and has done half the k's.
Guess at the end of the day i am looking for a tyre that will be able to hang on when having fun while at the same time not a super soft tyre that will need changing every year.

... whoever gave you those quotes is taking you for a ride unless they're throwing in a tyre for free if you're buying a whole set!
Dunlop sports tyres tend to fall apart.
Michelin are always expensive ... the Pirelli's would be worth looking into though, but I've heard they're no better than Maxxis and I doubt they'd last any longer.
Good Luck!

Cromax, I suspect the mIchellin pilot is actually preceda not sport ... PP2 is much cheaper than PS2 which is close to $600 each!
Fast tyres does not last long and long lasting tyres is not fast.... I think it is very simple idea, and will not change (what I believe)

Yeah, see if you can get them as a supplier.
Ask them if they can throw a tyre in with the purchase of a full set of rubber or something
Do they do good deals for cash?

have you considered bridgestone adrenalin (the new one replacing s03)? I've heard they are excellent, haven't tried it personally though but looking to get it when my tyre's due for replacement.

I've had the Falken RT-615's on for a year. Fantastic tyre in the dry and hangs on pretty well in the wet as well.
Have a new full set on my stock rims that are now my track tyres. Cost is $398 per corner fitted and balanced.
Cheers.... Otto

Another thing, i have seen RE050's on American websites. What is the difference between them and the RE040? Is the 50 not available in Australia?
A few members on here seem to rate the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. Any idea on approx price i should pay for them?

RE050 as far as I heard (according to Stu) is an updated version from RE040, different pattern and compound, supposed to be better than RE040
You should be able to get them here, it's standard on civic type r
