That light on the tach ... I swear it was there
Hey guys.
I don't know if I am suffering from amnesia or something but I could have sworn that there used to be a light on my tach that lit up yellow like the low fuel light when you hit the rev limit and the 'beep' came on.
I also remember faintly the tach needle sweeping blue as you revved it into the higher ranges.
I don't really thrash my car around too often but today morning I realised there was no light or blue sweep trail when I thought there should have been.
The blue sweep trail can be seen in a pic I took when I first got my car.
So the question is, is there really a yellow light or am i just imagining things?
I tried with the dash lights white, red and headlights on and off and couldn't manage to get the light to come on.
Now i am pretty sure I am not mistaken and that there used to be a yellow light.
Any reasons why it might have disappeared?
The dash works fine otherwise.

the bluish look is just because of where the baclighting is. (cool, unintentional feature)
- NO yellow light when you hit the rev limiter. Just a little round yellow light when you're low on fuel

that'd be an interesting littlemod though, and since there's always a beeper ready to sound when redline hits...there's probably a way to rig it so that it'll route power to an LED...or an array of LEDs...how'd you like it if your dash suddenly turned all red when you hit redline?
I may just look into this and cook it up myself. ^_^

We already have a tacho needle AND a beep for those who ignore the tacho needle. Not sure if I see the point of lighting up the dash as well.
Mind you, some people like engine start buttons too...
Whatever floats your boat.

rev it up
Actually a red line light would be good for track use as I was focussed on the tacho meter on the straight as the beep was barely audible with all the noise.
This would allow you to focus on the road and get your driving lines correct.

labrat, were you aware that some US fighters (F16?) came with a female voice loaded into the flight computer that issued warnings when the aircraft was being operated outside safe limits?
She got canned because the jet jockeys were telling her to "Shut up, BITCH" in simulator sessions!! So I've heard......

This of course could not apply to us gentlemen RX-8 drivers. Not only are we possessed of uncommon good taste, but our manners in the company of women is exemplary.

Seriously, I can hear the beep on the track quite easily. However, if hearing it is an issue for you, I agree an eyelevel visual warning might be helpful.

Mind you, I'm pretty sure a few drivers, male and female, have wanted to punch out the woman who does the voice over in some sat-nav systems.

from this idea has come further ideas, expanding among my friends and colleages as a full-out LED light project.
The idea behind this project is to make lights visible on the exterior of the car that react to the actions fo the driver...redline, progressively lighting rows showing amount of braking at a given time, lights showing when the DSC activates and on which wheels...I believe my Nova Blue will be the test subject for this.
Once I complete it, I'll post a how-to thread for anyone that may be interested! this will take a while as I have too many other things to deal with though... >_>

Guys, i'm pretty certain the yellow light you are referring to is the stability control activating..when u've gone a little too eagerly into a corner =) I should know, I have done it quite a bit whilst learning how much my baby can take.
If you want to test it out, just try a handbrake turn without shutting off your DSC
Cheers
