I knew their response would be like that but I had to say what I think and I think they were wrong. They are all Ford and Holden boguns anyway.. I'll try to post it on the forum here but I am terrible with computers and don't know how to get it from the mag and onto here.I know thats poor to all you computer gurus but I don't use a computer at work.

hey Matt, just read the article at a newsagent
sounds like the guy who wrote the article didnt put much thought into what he was saying, he probably thought he was telling the readers what they wanted to hear, which is his job, you blew him outta the water with the stig comment

he doesnt get time to watch topgear !!!!, he`s too busy working on his magazine he says,.. poor guy,

you made the guy look like a tool, "not having the rear end sorted" could the guy be any less specific ?? !!!!!

glad they published it, shoulda signed it matt13b
nice one matt

Good letter Matt, read it yesterday and was wondering who the culpritt was. K
new it would be someone from here.

Their response was lame, a Clubsport is 1 second quicker. Big deal!

Funny thing is I don't remember them or anyone suggesting the rear-end was "unsorted" when originally testing the car. An unsorted rear didn't stop it from winning Car of the Year! Maybe Morley's giant mullet put the weight distribution out.........

The only trouble with the rear end is his, the sh*t is coming out the mouth instead. As for the clubbie comment, its a completely different class of car. No attention was given to the very convincing stats that Matt13b gave, this shows techincal ignorance by Morley. Motor magazine has always been a bogan magazine and should be called V8 bogans monthly.

He said the Holden beat it by nearly a second but doesn't consider that a hot lap is just that and the RX8 could lap in that time all day long while the brakes and tyres on the Holden would no doubt be a smoldering mess in a matter of laps.. I also wasn't sure of the exact figure that the RX8 stops from 100kph but I think it is 34metres which is more than solid. One minor thing, car companies will always give the press a test car that is packed with every factory option available and in the case of the RX8 i think the difference in weight between a basic spec and a leather pack is something like 40-50kg's.I know I'm clutching at straws now but I am sure we could have a better crack at the R8 holden if not beat it(all 307kw's of it) if we re-did the runs.
Thanks Mike, was good to see some familiar faces there yesterday and have 3 RX8's vs 3 evos. I think we did our team proud and I had a top day(despite my floor mats now being covered in clay). The Mike mobile was very sideways, looked awesome..

Keep in mind that the guys at Motor are quicker drivers than most of the people who you see at the track /club events. Some of them are pro level (ie. Dean Evans), but even guys like Morley are only a few seconds off. They would not be easy to catch on the track ... no matter what the car, so you're more than likely to loose any 'challenge' against them.

Also here're the quickest HSV and RX8 time that they've managed (mind, you on 2 different occasions), driven by a Pro (ie. Warren Luff):
- Mazda RX8 = 1:44.62
- HSV GTS (auto) = 1.42.00

That HSV time was with the current HSV, and was quicker (on road tyres) than what they managed on the same day in an STi (on RE070s). Mind you, they did complain about the brakes (in the HSV) after 1 hot lap ... and these are the the biggest brakes that HSV offers. That would not happen to the STi (or RX8).

As far as the 'unsorted' rear-end goes, that is something that they often said about the S2000 as well. They say that on the limit (ie. entring corners at 10/10th) the back is not as well sorted (ie. as predictable / planted) as one would like ... and I have to agree with that. Though, most people would never ever notice because they never drive at that level. RX8 may be the same? Does not make the car bad as such, just not as well sorted as it could be.

Why didn't they mention it in the earlier reviews? Maybe it took them a while to become familiar / comfortable enough with the car to notice? That was the case with the S2000 as it took them a couple years to start complaining about the rear end. I'm not defending them, but considering the amount of cars they drive, their opition always has some merrit.

ps. If I'm not mistaken one of Morley's favourite cars is 911 ... so it's not like he does not like sportscars. He just does not like the RX8 (not that it's the only car he does not like) ... but then again, who likes every car that there is?

Come on guys, what do you expect.

Mr Morley is a motor car reviewer who gets to drive thousands of different vehicles and then decides to buy a BA Ford Falcon Ute for himself.

What can I say

Nuff Said

Matt

P.S. Can someone scan the article and letter.

I wonder how I would go these days with my Rx-8 against Dean Evans. Used to be able to out do Dean on the track years ago when we both wrote for FF&R magazine.

Ask him if he remembers those frustrating times racing (part time) David Morris

Anyway, he has gone on to be a much better driver since then where I got married, kids etc.

As for Morley. He obviously failed to understand the marketed theme of the RX-8 & was perhaps expecting a pure bred sports car like the RX-7. When these "elitist" journo's get the real-picture on the RX-8, perhaps then they may provide some accurate reporting.
