kw's in new RX8

I know that the australian RX8's had to be de-tuned to 170kw from 06 onwards I think it was,due to the emissions laws here.So the RX8's from the last few years have 170kw while the first ones had 177kw.So if the new RX8 is identical to the current RX8 mechanically(with the exception of the diff ratio),then won't it have 170kw like the current RX8's do here??

Assuming the outputs are the same, with the shorter ratios will that mean that the torque will increase?

Also, I read somewhere that the auto picks up a bit of power thanks to a new transmission.

Yeah, but it probably picks up a lot better because I recall reading that it was running the same setup as the manual now (bar the fact the transmission is differnent).

The point of the final drive ratio change was to increase acceleration. This will show an improvement in torque at the wheels but the engine itself hasnt changed.

dannobre, for real? I was of the belief it was an ECU/tunning affect.
