Illuminated Start Button

I just had the illuminated Rotor Shaped Start button turn up for my customers RX-8.

Man it is the coolest accessory for the 8

Its not listed for any market apart from Japan.

But you can order it through parts dept.

If ya get stuck email me at rian.herrick@northharbour.co.nz

And I'd be happy to send a button to aussie for you.

Cheers

I'm a little vague on the concept. How do you keep your car from being stolen if you just push a button to start it? Is the key no longer used?

That button looks way cool.

I believe key has to be in and turned to On. You hit the button instead of turning key past On to Start.

Then its just a gimmick; too bad. There are cars now (Prius, for one) you keep a transponder key fob in your pocket so the car "knows" you're there. Then all you do is push the start button. No key involved. The car also senses when you're nearby outside with the transponder and unlocks the door when you're there. Now that's a real use of technology.

Very cool idea, but I'm gonna pass... I think I'd get over the coolness factor after about 2 starts and start to wonder why I still have to use the key AND press the button... if it was like the system mentioned in that other thread that detected the key was in close proximity and allowed you to start it just with the button, then I'd be first in line :D Who knows, maybe an aftermarket proximity starter button will become available?

I'll post the part numbers on Monday for everyone.

Its $400 NZD Retail in NZ.

How it works.

As far as I'm aware you jump in turn the car to on and it illuminates or flashes you push the start button car starts and your away.

Its a bit of a mission to install has its own PCB and wiring loom.

Haven't installed it yet as the car doesn't arrive till Oct just sit here in a box.

I think I might put one in all the RX-8's I sell.

You can beat the rotor shaped start button.

Hell I think I'll get one for my RX-7 :D

Hi Rian!

Hi, this is Richard! I am THE customer for this START BUTTON. Geesh, it is such a small world huh? It is so strange to meet you here. It is so cool.

For anyone else reading this thread, Rian is a GREAT MAN. He's been so helpful in arranging my RX-8 in every way. So go ahead and order anything from him. He is just COOL!

Rian, I am really going crazy waiting for my RX-8. It's been over a month already and we still have a month to go. This waiting is really just too much. Please help me!

Oh by the way, could you please don't put the start button on all the RX-8 that you sell unless they order it? I want to be the only one in NZ to have it if possible...hehehe. Well, I guess I can't control that...never mind.

Anyway, reading this post only makes the waiting that much harder. I will talk to you soon. Take care!

Very small world !!!

I wouldn't put them on every RX-8.

But your definately the 1st and only person in NZ with the start button.

By the looks of it you might even be the only person out of japan.

I'll contact you later on today with a update on a few other things.

Has anyone determined if the start button removes the keys starter circuit and if the button is the classic "feet on pedals" type?
