Do you want to drive it?

My friend and I know people at the Porsche centre. I want to drive the new Boxster S though.

EDIT: look at the dial... does it look like something of yours at home?

as someone who has owned them, even a 930, I say why bother.
The are no other cars as overrated as a 911 based automobile.
They give the magazine writers Cart Blanch at expensive hotels near where they go to road test them. Someplace like The Swiss alps.
It works wonders for their reviews.
Or a track day at Paul Ricard.

Go drive it, you will not be impressed. Remember the engine is still in the back, behind the axial. Called polar moment.

Porsche is a two syllable word just to let ya'll know You know.... like Pour sha....

My dad has a '03 911 cab RWD... its fun, but at the limit it SCARES the bejeesus out of me... Throttle based oversteer is too hard to modulate and control... The car just snaps 180's WAAAAAAYYY too easy... I know I'm not the best driver... but even after a good 10 hard hours in car over a weekend I just never felt halfway as comfortable at speed and at the limit as I do in much lesser (perceived lesser) handling cars...

Its a fun convertible that can go fast (relatively) in a straight line and outhandle alot of stuff on the road... and SCREAMS money... but push it to the limit and its PUCKER FACTOR like crazy... nothing progressive about the limit at all... I almost totalled the damn thing finding out that I couldn't take a corner faster in the 911 than his previous plane jane boxster... I knew the road, proper conditions, proper line, and 5ph less than what I usually went through it in the boxster (both bone stock cars) braking wasn't an issue either.... snapped the scariest 180 of my life and the thing was that it was so sudden... I've spun out PLENTY of cars throughout my driving experience but this one was just spooky and to this day I don't push his car when I get the keys. Lesson learned was to listen to my own damn opinion on 911's and the stupid amount of money for what you get...

Well, it is quite pretty...

But Porches seem tailor made, and priced, for the sort of middle aged man who needs to stand on his wallet to get noticed.

I believe they call that mid life crisis where men dash out and buy a flashy car (to compensate for the paunch and bald spot) - "The Male Meno-Porsche".

I think I'll stick with a nice, discreet, blend-into-the-background type of car like my Lightning Yellow RX8, thanks.....

Ha Ha Ha LOL, now that's funny.... 'Men-o-Porsche', and come to think of it - I can't remember the last time I saw a young rich guy driving one either...usually a Bimmer or a Merk... not that that's any different...

Since I am in that tender advanced age group myself, I'll take both. I don't think I'd dare take a Porsche apart, but the 8 I can take out my anxieties on no problem, parts a flying :D

I have a mate who has recently gone through men-o-porsche. :p

He explained to me the other day -- dead-set serious look on his face -- how, when he gets his wife's Citroen serviced at the dealer that also services his Porsche charges him $75/hour in labour, but it's $250/hr for the Porsche...and its the same bunch of mechanics.....:D :D :D

ROFLMAO at that one! Buy a Porsche and they see you coming....they being the rip-off merchants

Oh yeah, 10,000k Porsche service was $1,500 ... but they loaned him a Citroen to drive :D

Lovely looking cars, but the image is not for me

Incidentally, talking of the male meno-porsche....

There actually is a male equivalent of the female menopause - it's called the andropause. It doesn't seem to get quite the same publicity, but it's also some sort of hormonal change that occurs, and turns us all into GRUMPY OLD BASTARDS!!

So don't disagree with me or.... .... I'll just have to dash out and have some more RX8 therapy to calm myself down again....
