What is the point in washing your car if its not going to stay clean for longer than a couple days?

Should i still wash it?

She needs another coat of wax and the black plastic is starting to look a little faded.

But with such moody weather I really don't know if its worth it.

Oh and as a random, I like your rims e5cape. Saw your car at Warwick Farm New Year Festival on the weekend when it pissed down cats and dogs. Pity about the transmission. :P

I think I've washed my car twice this year.

 

twice a week should do it, its really easy and i do it when im out and about. Carry a clean towel in the boot, nice and soft. drop into a carwash that has those trigger thingys and shoot the car all over, pull over to the side and towel her dry, comes up like a treat and takes 5 mins. Wax every now and then and it will be fine!!

How often do I clean my car?

Now the owner of the car wash say hello to me, ask me about my next track day. The cafe girl knows my name, puts in the details for reward points and ordered a latte for me or a latte and an OJ if Alyssa is with me.

That is how often I go.

 

I ALWAYS was it 2 days before it rains....

 

3 times a week, and i wax every 2 months. Although i've waxed twice this month, and will wax early again in March.

2-3 times a week? Are you guys nuts?! 5 minutes to wash your car?! Try 30+ ... and I take my own hot water so I can get all the marks off without scrubbing my paint away ...

... so, when do I wash my car? at the moment, when the colour doesn't look silver anymore.

If there weren't water restrictions I would wash it once a week. I don't like washing my car at those commercial places ... I have to touch things that other people have touched without washing their hands *eek* and god knows what's in that water!

I haven't had to polish or wax my car yet because it still beads ... why polish it if it doesn't need to be polished? I'm presuming because I've used those commercial places a few times now that the paint's got a buildup of muck on it, but I'll wash it properly sometime this week and see.

BTW, here's some useless information to you: The average car wash at one of those commerical places uses about 150-200L of water ... up to 70% of that is recycled, which means you use 45L of fresh drinking water every time you wash your car. If I wash my car at home, I worked it out to being 25L ... which includes a bucket of soapy water and my spray device thing, and the water runs off into the garden. Therefore, I'm saving water ...

havent washed jr since the night before the philip island cruise/lunch & debut of ozrenesis thingo last year... and it is bloody filthy atm, damn dusty basement parking.
the weather is going to be crappy, so it'd be filth for at least another week.

 

Twice a month weather permitting and a re-wax when the beading stops.

Never use polish as I want to keep the paint not scrape it off. Finally found a local source for the Maguires trim detailer and can make th eblack bits look good again.

 

once a month for me. I either get the waterless wash people to come and clean it at the office. Problem is I have no roof over the carport and lots of flowering trees overhead. Car is filthy the next day

 

gotta watch out for the tree saps.... they can be very damaging to the paint.

To save time, I decided to wax progressively a few washes ago - i.e. a separate bit of the car after each wash until it's all done. Did the front guards, nose and bonnet the first time, roof and boot lid last time. I'll do the doors next and then finish with the rear quarters and back bumper. I find this makes the whole process less onerous.

I can then leave it again for a while - I usually wax about 3-4 times a year.

BTW, beading is a telltale but so is 'stickiness'. When the car is clean and dry, try running your fingers lightly over the surface. If they glide, no problem, but if they stick a little, this can be a good indication that you need to pull out the polish or wax again.

I refuse to use buckets. I use a trigger hose with an adjustable nozzle that uses much less water than buckets. Fortunately, my neighbours see the sense of this and aren't dobbers.

 

I wash my car once a week. It's about a 30 minute process from start to finish. I figure if I do it often enought, it keeps the job fairly easy each time. My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts because I really don't care how cold it is outside.

If my car is dirty, it bugs the hell out of me.

I go to one of those coin operated car washes where you wash your car yourself. I use my own bucket, detergent, and towels. It's just more convenient for me to pull into one of these places, feed the machine with quarters, and the hose, water, and shading is ready to go.

Oh yeah....I have my ipod with me too and crank it up!

My car gets a wash every 2-3 weeks, sometimes a bit more if i'm feeling lazy. I do 95% of my driving Friday - Sunday and it's garaged the rest of the time, so dirt build up isn't a big issue. But black exhaust crap on the rear bumper and bootlid (yes it goes up that high) is a real pain in the *** on a white car. Brake dust ain't real nice either. And then there's bugs and bird crap that seems to mysteriously pop out of nowhere all the time.

I thought maintaining white would be much easier than black, but so far they're both as annoying as each other. The things we do for the love of our cars...

I only just noticed this the other day on my mine,
whats the best way to get it off ?
the corrosion or whatever it is that covers the tips is annoying too.

do you mean the Meguiars protectant wipes? If not there damn good aswell and they have a pleasant smell so you dont really need air-freshner.. they nearlly smell good enough to eat

I wash my car once per week, unless its gunna rain i hold off until it passes.
I love my first drive when its all nice and clean im sure far more people take notice of the car..

I fully respect the fact we have to tighten our water useage in this country, but when we see Industry, (which includes Govt and Council) wasting water, and rate payers can't even use a hose for just 10 minutes a fortnight to clean their car without risking a fine just dosen't make sense.

You're right revolver, nozzling uses far less water than buckets and I feel we would be all much better served if every household had an allocated water budget, that way we could manage and use our water dependent on our own needs.
