Hot And Fresh Out Of The Kitchen

If anybody here is interested in Greddy/Trust performance bits for their RX8, you'll be delighted to know that as of yesterday, a catback exhaust and cold air intake system has become available.

This is literally hot and fresh out of the kitchen since neither the Trust or the Greddy sites list these products yet.

I've got my order in for a cold air intake system that should arrive within 14 days and I'll definitely let you all know how it goes.

It is a interesting design which actully has a intake pipe run from the rubber intake hose and extend through the factory cold air feed next to the passenger side headlight.

The airfilter is then attached to the end of this and places it behind the front bar between the headlights where the standard airbox normally has it's cold air feed.

Whether it produces any additional power is any one's guess, but I'm doing it simply because I want the induction noise, any additional performance gains are a added bonus.

Needless to say, you'll need to remove the front bumper for this installation and apart from that, no modifications are needed, it is a pure bolt on system.

Same can also be said about the exhaust which has also become available. I'm not 100% sure what the specs on the system is since as you are all probably aware, I've already got a HKS one on mine.

Something tells me that the one that has just become available is different to the Greddy system sold in the US.
The US market system is manufactured in Mexico while this newly released one is made in Japan.

Apart from that, that's all I can really tell you about the exhaust.
But it seems the Japanese aftermarket scene for the RX8 is about to explode.
The Greddy turbo kit is nearing completion and depending on price, I may open up my wallet for that as well.

As I said, these are fresh off the production line, so there's nothing on the websites yet.

As for pictures, these are even non-existent at this point in time.
Even my Greddy supplier hasn't received any yet.

I've purchased the intake from my supplier on the proviso that it is exactly as described to him by Trust/Greddy Japan, otherwise I am returning it.

As soon as I see something, I'll certainly let you guys know.
If I receive my intake before then, I'll promise to take some photos and upload them.

I am a "automobile audiophile" and I don't mean car stereos.
I certainly love all the noise emanating from the car.

Now if I can just wait and see what these turbo or supercharger kits cost and I can then enjoy either hissing and sneezing or whining noises as well.

Surfed the Trust site and it seems that they have updated it over the last few hours.

So for your viewing pleasure, this is the new exhaust system which has just become available:

http://www.trust-power.com/mazda/mx8/exh/mx.html

For some reason, due to a typo, the RX8 is listed as a MX8, but the engine code and chassis code is correct.

Now here is my exciting part, the new intake system I'll be getting in 14days. After seeing it, you'll agree that it is quite unique and is a novel approach:

Enjoy guys! I'm excited! :D :D :D :D :D :D

I wonder whether that CAI will make much difference. The factory snorkel already sucks air from ahead of the engine bay.

after looking at that air intake all you can ask is why?

looks like a reduction in filter area and the addition of weight.

why move the air filter down that low and over the other side of the car? hopefully they found that was a good tuned length.

Yeah I wonder a bend CAI tubing will contribute better flow to the engine... I doubt it

They moved the airfilter to the other side since we have a oil cooler on the passenger side.

I had someone translate the Japanese for me, and according to Trust, it states that it is a tuned length intake system which is waterproof and designed to increase midrange power.

Apparently it states that 7.4kw is to be gained at 7000rpm but doesn't state whether it's at the wheels or flywheel.

As for weight, I can't imagine it to weigh much more than the standard airbox, what little you gain in weight will be compensated by an aftermarket exhaust anyway.

Airfilter area is irrelevant since the standard airbox size does not receive the equal amount of air being fed to it anyway.
After all, the air feed to the airbox is only so big.

I'll let you guys know how I travel with it.

Everyone.... Hymee... there is an electronic thing in the top of the CAI tubing of the RX-8

I have seen a few picture of the CAI that still include this but the rotary extreme model sort of ignore that....
What is that btw.... would that be a detector for the ECU???

I will find pic

If what you are asking, Taka, is the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, then the RE does include a mount point for it.

The engine wont run properly without it, or if it gets messed with. It is arguably the primary input to the ECU for determining the fuel and spark requirements. The other main input is RPM.

Cheers,
Hymee.
