Hymee,
I have been pulled over regarding fog or "driving" lights several times. The cop reconed they were illegal, and I argued the point... ie the car has ADR compliance and is sold in Australia, so how can they be illegal? The car was a Eunos 30x... (another quality Mazda product).
Funny thing is that when the cop sensed he might be losing the argument, he said that is is illegal to "dazzle" other driversl, so that is why you have to turn fog lights off!
So.. I would like to know the "legal" definition of dazle as well

I mentioned HSV drivers 'cos there is an innordinate amount of these crankers down here who drive with the things on during the day......I wasn't having a go at you (Ex HSV owner that you are) per se....

Saw two this morning, in fact....

1) I hate hsv's, they are POS

2) the motoring bodies have to define dazzle, esp. for todays generation, people are being targeted for nothing.

3) I only know of one policy re: HIDs and ADR, that is all cars with HID in Oz, have to have washer jets. Thats why cops have their eyes on imports like a skyline r34 for instance, they have jap xenon, yet no washer nozzles. Washer nozzles help clean dirt or grime which may dazzle traffic.

....theres that word again.....

The National Transport Commission www.ntc.gov.au publishes a set of 'model' road rules. Whether these are the law in your state depends on ... your state, but here in the ACT the rules are pretty clear:

Front fog lights must be white or yellow. They can be wired
through the park light circuit and should only be used in conditions
of reduced visibility such as fog, dust storm or smoke.

Rear fog lights produce a high intensity red light. They can be
wired through the park light circuit and must only be used when
driving in fog or other hazardous weather conditions that cause
reduced visibility. They must be turned off at all other times.

Lights likely to dazzle another road user must not be used at any time of the day or night.

Auxiliary driving lights must only be wired through the high
beam circuit and turned off when you are less than 200 metres
behind a vehicle travelling in the same direction or less than 200
metres from an oncoming vehicle.

Traffic Infringement Notice penalties for incorrect use of vehicle
lights include fines of $74.00 and the application of one demerit
point.

I am of the view that people who drive around in clear daylight with their fog lights on are real *******.... but then, as a POV pack owner, I would say that, wouldn't I :D

.... and 'dazzle', I am afraid, will be left to the subjective judgement of the plod who does you....

While we've effectively hijacked this thread, I'll say one last thing.....Bloody Hyundai drivers who can't figure out that they even HAVE a rear fog light sh#t me.......and fog lamps are just front end ballast on the 8 IMO, especially since they have such good headlights.....POV PACS RULE

I hate any drivers that use fog lights (front and rear) at any time of day or night. They do not do anything other than increase the dazzle (whether coming towards me or behind me).

If it's foggy then fine they make it easier to see the edge of the road and centre lines, but other than that they are of no use when driving.

Gomez.
for some reason i tend to agree with u abit..... i got pulled over again for some unknown reason. again cops have no proof to if i was speeding (they coming opposite direction, and u-turned and started following me without the siren, so i stopped by the side of the road to see if the cops were following me, and they were, parked right behind me)

this time it was daylight! no idea why i was stopped, they asked me if i was speeding (i went around a corner slightly faster than usual and went to the speed limit abit sooner than usual), obviously i said i dun think i was speeding. they walked around my car 'inspecting' it and appeared to be noting somethin on paper (unsure, think it was my number plate). my P plate is attracting alot of attention...

and no, i didn't lay ne marks yet (to my knowledge) on ne roads or car parks.... at least not in this car.... yet...

Ah yes - the old Fog Light debate. Always stirs up a bit of posting on any forum. Hehehe.

I better get RichardM to post his views. Hehehehe.

Cheers,
Hymee.

i'm a 19 yo asian (chinese)... but i doupt they can tell b4 they pull me over. the only prob is that P plate.... still 10 months to go .

and running from the cops... i'd rather not... especially if i haven't done nething wrong in the first place. i dun like the idea of being followed by cops, so even if they don't have sirens on, i'd either slow down to let them catch up/over take, or stop fully on side of road if not on highway/freeway.

They have a sixth sense. I got to some magical age (after 21 I think) where either they just left me alone, or my habbits changed.

I use the fog light front or rear when there is too much rain or fog. Very useful in the Monash freeway in my end of town.

Hey is there any local shop (or in Australia) for that matter... to have the H9 and H11 in superwhite. I don't want bright. I just want the colour change to match the Xenon!
