Hey there

Hey guys,

Noobie here, planning on buying an RX8 in 7-8 months, finally after all this waiting and wanting. Looking for body kit information and found this wonderful forum and after reading for a while I found it to be quite a warm and friendly atmosphere. As such I hope that when I finally do purchase my SE3P I can get involved with any victorian get togthers and share my love of the RX8 with all of you. Anyway just wanted to say a hi and a how do, and look forward to chatting with you guys.

Laters

Akito, welcome to the family. As MissyK said, we have a lot planned for 2007. Feel free to come to some of our upcoming events to get to know the crowd. The closest one is our Philip Island cruise https://www.rx8club.com/australia-new-zealand-forum-37/%5Bvic%5D-christmas-phillip-island-cruise-16-12-06-a-103006/.

Cheers

Welcome indeed... I for one have really enjoyed getting to know the people I've met through this place, sharing our love of the 8. It adds heaps to the joy of ownership!

Storm blue or black, budget 60-80k so new, and thanks for the welcome guys. Main reason it will take 6-7 months is to get my finances in order but once they are, bam :D. It is a long wait and trust me it's killing me but it will be worth it I know. Basically I wanna deck it out in terms of the exterior and modify it to the max allowable power to weight ratio for a P plater. Btw can any of you guys please explain in detail the new P plate regulations and how they will effect RX8 ownership? I myself have don't have to worry but my little brother is looking to possibly join the club too so yeah. Any information on that subject would be great. Thanks again for the warm welcome and look forward to joining the wonderful world of RX8 ownership.

Thanks again

Akito

p.s forgot to mention, no I have no family, single male in mah prime :P

What’s a high powered car?
A high powered vehicle is any vehicle with a power to weight ratio over 125 kw per tonne, or with an engine capacity to weight ratio over 3.5 litres per tonne. This includes any make of car.

Manual Leather pack is 130Kw per tonne and so a no go for P Platers. The auto is fine (as far as VicRoads goes.

is there any way to weight the car down or restrict the power to get it to 125 per tonne? My brother won't go for an auto, especially after seeing the auto vs manual rx8 battle.

No chance. From the same page as before:

The weight of a vehicle is the unladen mass specified by the manufacturer for the stock standard vehicle (without options)

When do you get off P?

Unless you are driving a Holden - no police will know how much it put out. It is not putting out 177kW anyway.

I saw too many P plater driving Monaro and SS. I wonder if these rules are forced at all. But again, better to be on the right side of the law.

Welcome!

I would suggest you dye your hair grey. Don't mature single ladies often complain about going unoticed. (Ooops did I just say that out loud... Runs to fallout shelter quickly before the incoming blasts)

The issue with the VL Commobore's is the factory spec is all the police are allowed to go on.

If they happen to hot them up and get 500000000 Kw at the rear wheels, then its not so simple for the police.

Ahh well looks like my bro won't be able to get one then, he'll have to wait for the next rx8 cause 09 is when he gets of his Ps lol. Shame though he really wanted one, and no he wasn't willing to go auto, it was manual or bust.

Thanks again guys and see you around on the forums

It is probably for the better - there are good reasons that inexperienced drivers should NOT have performance cars ....

I know I would have killed myself if an rx8 (or whatever was similar at the time) was my first car.

Welcome Akito . Hope you enjoy the car (when you get it) and have fun with us all in here.

As for being pulled over, in two years of ownership I'm yet to be pulled over once. Not even for a breath test . Ahh, the sole advantage of old age.

Of course, now that I've said that, I'll get pulled over 5 times in the next fortnight.

I agree with that. I simply would not be here if I had access to something like the 8 when I was 18 yrs old.

Mind you, P-platers will kill themselves in a Yaris if they're trying hard enough.

Relax Kall. Nobody's calling you a fibber. That's why I referred to the advantages of old age!!! Was really just agreeing with Will.

And I agree that stealth mode avoids entanglements with the constabulary. Unfortunately, body kits on bright red cars are magnets for cretin coppers .
