Anyone else interested in doing an introductory track day on August 23rd in your new '8?

I've pencilled myself in with Jim Murcotts Driving School (have done one before with them).

It's a very inexpensive way to come to grips with the car, find out how it handles different situations, see what it's capable of.

The nice things about doing a track day are:
- there's no oncoming traffic
- all the drivers are "very aware" of what's going on around them
- there's no trees/power poles
- you know the corners are coming up
- there's no magnas or taragos
- there's no kids chasing ***** across the street
- if you have an "off" there's lots of room to recover - you don't hit anything (we're not doing F1 speeds)
- there's no "racing" - strictly "verboten". It's just you and the car having some fun.

If you love to drive fast but don't want to be part of the $240 a minute victorian government revenue raising scheme, this is a great way to get the "speed" out of your system.

In all my track days (have done approx 20 in different cars) I've only seen one incident (trivial damage) and that's where a guy was just being plain stupid - very cocky and was showing off for the cameras. None of us will be like that with our brand new cars...

So what do you say?

 

Do the organizers of such events in Oz normally have an ambulance and paramedics on site like here in the States?

Yep....

but the only thing I've ever seen them do is hand out bottles of water on really hot days... :D

 

I would love too join you:p but too bad I am in Sydney. Otherwise, yeah for sure!! I am thinking of taking my car to Melbourne though, to break in the car.

mmm, Ill see if I can take my leave during that period!!!!

 

2 things:

1. Takahashi may not have his car yet or even run it in properly

2. Takahashi needs to know whether he needs anything for the track as he never tracks his car - even his DC2 Integra Type R

Organise it in late Sept or even October than I will be able to make it... thxxx

 

Drive in the car to Melbourne to break in??? Not a good idea.

1. No good for new engine to have constant speed
2. No good for stone chips in Fwy

breaking in is going to be difficult... you don't have to have constant speed, just sit the car for 5 mins at a time in a different gear on the freeway...

go from sixth/fifth/fourth/third - should use everything from 2000 to 5000 at about 90k I would have thought.

stone chips? on the Hume? nah.....
