Heathcote race track - today

I went to heathcote (vic drag strip) to see what was going on at a test and tune day, to my surprise there was another forum member "AMUSE".

He got his new exhaust system on and it sounds great, unfortunatly even with his new 265/18/40 tyres, he was unable to get traction and pulled times like 18.95 and alike.

Unable to get traction??

Even with stock tyres and a little bit of wheelspin, I've still personally done 0-100 in <7sec numerous times.

What gives? Does AMUSE's new exhaust give hime so much extra power that 265's still arent big enough? That'd be sweet if it's the case.... sign me up! Otherwise, I don't get it.

WTF - An 18 second RX8?

Try a 15.0 flat (and a little dissapointed).

Cheers,
Hymee.

Its hard to see why, but exhaust gave him around 13HP at the engine. Its the tyres maybe not gripping well on the drag strip surface although wide, the drag strip goes well with slicks.

He could get more grip using 205 or 215 slicks rather than 265's.

He was spinning through 1st and second gears without backing off. The car IMO would have run a 14.6 or there abouts. It did sound great tho.

Spinning in 2nd ... you may as well hit the brake pedal.

Were the tyres new? Sounds like he should have spent a bit of time spinning them before the drag.

How much velocity and distance did he get before 2nd? (approx)

Sounds like a complete ***** up.

hi guys, yes i admit the times were below standard, the best time i was able to achieve on the day was 16.7 but this is my first time at the track so just gimme a break please anyways just to let u know that racing at heathcote is very different as there is a lot of burnt rubber at the start line making it very difficult to get traction, i have a friend with a 350z with full exhaust system and he was only able to run 14.44, also an evo 6 with 220kw @ 4 wheels was only able to run a 12.79 so that gives u an indication of what the track is like.

anyways i hope to do better next time.

They should prep the track better than that. "Only a 12.79"... Anything in the 12's is doing great.

Have fun! (Need someone to better a 15.0, showroom stock )

AMUSE, and by the way mate, i'm not 'trying' to hang **** on you, I'm just talking...

I know that heathcote's track is nothing special and it was your 2nd run on a track, ever. I actually commend you for getting out there and having a shot, its great to see and damn fun even if your not running 10 sec passes.

Folks

Several years ago I owned a European car famous for being boxy and safe ( God knows what I was thinking) and did a few single car at a time dirt circuit events to find someone contacted the distributors who wrote me a letter advising that 'any warranty claims would be considered in light of the fact that I had engaged in a timed motorsport event and as such claims may be rejected.

Does the fact that this is a sports car overcome this drama?

Rob

lets just hope your driving style has changed. we dont want to hurt the rx8's image now, do we?

This car needs to gain respect from the start in order to hold it like the rx7 does!
