Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middleclass, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.

what is:
Federal Unemployment (UI) .. we dont pay a tax for that in aus because we have a bit more compassion than americans
federal income tax in aus is just income tax - the federal but is american

others i have nothing to do with:
Boat Registration Tax
Boat Mooring Tax if i can afford a boat i might just pay a bit more tax - but still never heard of it
Corporate Income Tax - is this company tax? thats fine but i never pay corporate tax ...
Firearms Tax
Food License Tax
Gross Receipts Tax
Health Tax - medicare tax is mentioned later - so are those 2 the same or ???
Hunting License Tax
Personal Income Tax or is this the same as federal tax ??? i mean i pay income tax but which is which?
Poverty Tax - what the hell is that?
Prescription Drug Tax - never heard of it
Provisional Income Tax - is this just income tax - because if it is its been listed 3 times now
Retail Sales Tax - well isnt that just gst that was mentioned earlier
Service Charge Tax - well thats the s in gst - mentioned earlier
School Tax - good old school tax - i remember that on my last tax return ... oh heck, no i dont - its just made up like all the others
Tollway Tax - well not a tax because they're private roads - but this is kinda on track regarding the problems we have , but still ... not a tax
Telephone Federal Tax - yeah that rings a bell ... :-o
Provincial and Local Surcharge Taxes - again - that makes sense :-P

cute, inaccurate emails from the US, that some people attempt to put into an australian context, should maybe scrutinised a bit more closely. i mean, people who continually do this are probably the same people that bemoan our loss of culture in australia.
