gearbox or clutch issues.
hello everyone..
As I realised the gearbox of my car was getting harder n stiffer day after day (especially when changing gear after hearing the 'beep' ) I decided to let my dealer to have a look what was wrong with my car
I'd been told by my dealer after they had inspected my car that they 'BELIEVE' the problem was due to the clutch was slipping... they said they had to call Mazda Aust. to look at my car and they had the feeling that MA would have to take off the whole transmission system to find out the problem.. In this case if the problem was due to the clutch slipping... I'd have to pay for the labor cost of inspecting the transmission system which'd cost at least $800........
any idea for me guys n ladies?

Hmm, I haven't noticed any problems with my gearbox.
The short shifter makes the action a little firmer but it always goes straight into gear okay.
Keep us posted.

Do you still have any warranty left for the 8? If so, wouldnt the inspection + all other costs be covered under warranty?

All that stupid excuse that they make up. I am sure there is a TSB for dealer to say those words for customers
Dealer will charge you to look at it, since if it is not the source of the problem, they cannot charge MA for the labour. They are not good hearted enough to give you a free man to look at your thing.
$800. They take 7 hours to look at a gear box??? Does that include a 2 hour lunch? Last time I went in for a quick fix in Canberra - the guy took a f^&*ing lunch half way through his job.

They can claim the labour only when a warranty part is supplied.
So most people with synchro problem WILL not get the gear box pulled apart. They will just put the whole new set of gear box in, and return the old box to Mazda. Labour is charged as long as they like. And the work is little as it is just a swab over.
There are so many tricks that they do to squeeze money from MA. Haven't you know why they like us asking the right question so much? Oh my car does not sound well when it starts - yes you can have a start motor upgrade. Oh my car is vibrating on idle - yes you can have a new engine mount.

YES, my 8 is still under factory warranty but Mazda Sutherland told me that I would be charged for labor if it is not the gearbox causing the problem... they doubted that I did'nt release clutch properly which lead to the problem..... (bull ****!!!!) I do sometime drive the car hard but isn't it what it meant to be? I drive easily most of the time.....
any idea for man??????

I went test drive a 2nd RX8 this afternoon which has been driven for about 23000km.. i could easily tell that my gearbox needs to be repaired.. will ring up other Mazda dealer tomorrow to book a time for an inspection..
I sometime cant even shift up at high rev.. (usually beyond 8000...)

OK, I would not put up with this from the dealer. I had a similar problem with a clutch failure from Holden a couple of years back. They claimed driver abuse, I challenged them on it and asked them to prove their claim. They said it was common knowledge that this sort of failure was vehicle abuse, once again I asked them to prove it or I would be contacting the Department of Fair Trading.
They have a standard policy of denying fault in issues like this, inform them that you will not be paying anything, and they need to rectify the problem. If this fails then contact Mazda Australia and complain to them.
