Fun with Amor All

I've done a bit of research on removing Amor All, wanted to check in and find out of anyone here has done it and the results.

My car came with a nifty bluetooth kit which actually works and has had the old relay fitted to switch off the radio (whole front display actually) when it rings.

However the car has been amor all'd and the little control thingy won't stay stuck.

I've read suggestions from water, soap, windex!?, alcohol and nail polish remover (won;t be trying that one!)

Anyone have a trusted winner????? that they have actually used!!

Can't help you on the Armourall -- hate the stuff

Interesting the approach to muting the radio. Sounds like the installer put in a switch to totally cut the power to the head unit. I assume the a/c still works when you're on the phone? My installer, who's done a lot of cars, just couldn't figure out how to kick the mute in, short of a fairly complex exercise to tap into the steering wheel mute control wire

My suggestion is to stay away from solvents - the danger of slopping over onto the shiny black plastic is too great. Stick to detergents. a drop of dishwashing liquid on a clean damp rag, rub the affected area, and then clean with a rag with plain water until all traces of detergent are removed. Allow the area to dry overnight before trying to stick stuff on.

detergents sounds good to me too.

Some medical use alcohol is what I use to get rid of any hand "oil" before sticking any thing on. Go to chemist and buy some alcohol swipe. They are good for your first aid kit anyway.

You may want double sticky foam strips instead. Where are you putting it anyway?

mike,
you can get prepsol (aka. grease and wax remover) from supercheap or autobhan etc....
they are great for clean stuff like that, as well as those sticky sticker residue left on glass/panels.....
it will give you a dull surface, re-wax/amor all the surround afterwards.

if you want to get rid of the amor all, get interior cleaner, i think you can get them from those above mentioned places.

Thanks guys! Will try as suggested. (including the beer!)

I have some alco swabs, so will try that after some dish washing detergent.

Didn't notice on the aircon will check it out Timbo, only rung once! LOL! Took me a while to work out!!

It's the little Motorola one with the glowing blue M which is a bit annoying so am going to stick it behind the steering wheel cross bar (line of sight) on the dash. So I can't see it while driving. I'll post piccies. It has one big button to do most things so do't need to see it.

Sound was pretty good, alot better than the old Jabra headset i had!

Put the shifter in last night and found and Ipod charger installed as well! Real magical mystery tour.

Timbo,

Experimented, head unit switches off, but aircon stays on. I had it on manual however. Ie Aircon plus fan.

Worked a bloody treat! Either the washing up stuff or the alcohol......lets give it up for the booze.

While i was fiddling, it connected with my phone which was in the house, up one storey through 2 brick walls approx 20 metres. I had to go and get it to check it out, the old jabra barely connected from my ear to my belt!

Err "hello moto" or something, (my bloody razr does that after i switch it off and on!...very embarrissing)

Couple of pic's. Know this is lame but for once technology she works!

Looks v neat. Mine is a bit more fugly

I like the b/t kits, although early on, mine had a tendency to disconnect from the phone (Blackberry). New phone (Nokia) is much better. The great strength is that the thing connects from your pocket when you get in the car; the great weakness is I tend to leave the bloody thing there, so (since my kit doesn't have mini screen) I never know who's calling

V. shiny!! I have my blue tooth kit button in exactly the same spot...at first it was annoying as I couldn't see it...but now I have my phone on auto answer and it will answer in my handbag in the boot....have to be really professional as I can't see who is calling either....my installer didn't want to add the instant mute function as he was worried that it would turn off the air con....I wasn't too fussed really.....only once I have had the phone ring...stereo too loud to hear the ringer...lucky it was my mum!! Good cleaning with the alcohol swab.....might try that too to get the makeup marks off the door handles
