Flooding

Not the natural kind either I always thought people that managed to flood their Rx8's had a screw loose or something not offense intended, of course.
But after 2.5 years of ownership I've finally managed to do it as well and now I'm waiting at home for a tow truck to come along and take my baby to City Mazda
F*** It, gee i feel like an idiot.

As some one says...

I may not happen overnight but I "can" happen.

As a rule in winter time, warm the car up or rev it to 3000rpm for 10 seconds if the coolant needle is not at the operation temperature.

Hmmm... why?

The mechanics cannot figure out how to unflood the engine or they have to study the manual first?

It is unusual since even the roadside assist can do it.

I thought just letting the car sit for an hour fixes the problem anyway?

When starting the car after a flood, you have a high likelyhood of toasting the cat. They may also have to do the campaigns that are supposed to prevent it happening if they havent been done.

Hopefully the flooding saga will finally be addressed if and when the next rotary appears its a very embarrasing problem that should not occur .

The flooding issue is a rotary engine design characteristic & even todays technology has yet to eliminate it 100%

My 20B-REW Cosmo is an excellent example. Start it cold, turn it off within 90-seconds. Try to start it again later & "No chance" its flooded.

Always warm the engine up fully even if you only need to move the RX-8 out of the garage & go nowhere. If you do this 2-3 times, take the car for a run & give it some revs on the 3rd or 4th time or even warming it up will not be enough by the time you have started, stoppped started 5+ times.

The Mazda Roadside assist guy couldn't get it started so they organized a tow truck. Thankfully the cost of the tow is included with roadside assist, so i guess that was $155 well spent... I wonder what Mazda will charge me

Isnt it free if you're under warranty?

Not the towing. It comes in an initial package.

Why $155 though. I pay eighty odd dollars for renew.

Ben, I suspect the new rotary engine will have a focus on fuel economy and not flooding problems.

Mazda have upgraded the battery, starter motor and plugs on the later models to address the difficulties in starting. It seems the flooding issues has not been serious enough for Mazda to warrant a recall.

Although it would be nice to see a change in this area, the chances of Mazda doing anything about it is zip. So if anyone tells you anything different this is what I have to say...!

I've backed my car out of the garage to wash, clean and primp the revolvermobile plenty of times and I've always been paranoid about flooding it. Touch wood it hasn't happened yet though.

Good reminder though on the warm up and rev routine.
