How are you guys getting these prices????????? I'm signed up with NRMA. The first quote was 3111 and I was happy when they requoted at 2898. When I checked with aami and others all quotes were over 3000, and thats with a perfect driving and insurance record with both my wife and I over 30. The only down is that the car is for business. ( That only added about 400 to the premium though) Oh Yeah the NCB is 65%.
Unless of course my premium is to cover all the RX8s in Sydney

Unless your registering your car in a business name, i would be telling them it is for personal use. When i got my quote of $1186 i was told that AAMI would not even insure that car if it was for business use.
At the end of the day, your still the driver right?

I'm a sole trader though, maybe it's different if your a Pty. Ltd.?

my original quote was for 683 from aami. (see previous post). the corrected premium for me was 1612 for area code 3032. there is an error in their tables. people may get an adjustment or a higher premium next year.

i registered personal use but under a pty ltd company name as i said that the care was used for driving from home to work and back again. not used for courier, sales, delivers etc. drivers were listed as myself and spouse.

i guess the insurance thing is a bit of a raffle.

from the quotes, it seems that aami is the most competitive.

I reckon it IS a bit if a raffle sometimes. Sure the insurance companies use tables to assess the theft risk of your car and where you live, your age and driving experience etc. etc. There's also no doubt that the premium I have is not representative of the norm for the RX-8, which seems to be anywhere between $1200 and $2000.

There are a couple of factors that may have influenced my premium. (1) I sold my previous car a couple of months before the RX-8 was due to arrive and I cancelled my policy with AAMI which still had 5 months to run. (2) My wife is still insured with AAMI for her car.

I think it's like the banks. They will give you a very good deal if they regard you as a 'high net worth' customer. i.e steady full time job, good salary, mortgage, good credit rating etc. Someone who is worth beating the competition for because the risk is low and therefore the profit is high.

Anyway, whatever way you look at it I got a bloody bargain and I'm putting it down to the fact that I'm well overdue a bit of luck like this !

Good to see Lady Luck shining. Seeing as it is so late I'm guessing you have been taking the new one for a spin. Hope all went well with the delivery

hi pdu

i agree. whenever you can get away with something from the insurance companies, good luck to you!

i have had aami insurance for 7 years without a claim, have my house and contents with them and they still gave me 1612 for the rx-8.

interestingly, i did a web quote for 3153 post code with same details, and the quote was down to 1200. 3153 is outer eastern suburbs.

anyway, 1612 is fair, 2000 and over is UNFAIR.

cheers

mike

PS lookout for a red rx-8 with RCSPL plates! i saw my first rx-8 other than my brothers blue one the other day in the city. any one on this fourm own it? looks great from the outside!!

aus rx8,

I'm always up late. I'm a bit of a night owl, but I also have a 13 week old son so I do the night shift up until 1am or 2am each night then my wife covers the middle of the night.

I must admit though, I did go and sit in the car in the garage about an hour ago listening to some favourite CDs on the Bose sound system. IMO it sounds fantastic.

Phew - some pretty stiff premiums there.

Comprehensive from SGIO, with a basic excess of $250, mine was $866.60

But the car is fully paid for - i.e no finance - I don't live in a city (so may be a lower risk area???) and I'm an older guy with a clean licence and no previous claims. So maybe there is some benefit from being an old fart (of course the downside being that I get to be dead earlier than most other owners.... :p )

But the same company wanted nearly $600 for our standard Mazda 323 hatchback. A car worth a third the cost of the RX8. So we got a much better quote from another company on that one. It does seem that it can be a bit of a lottery.

What a great excuse! :D

I've steeled myself to let 3 or 4 friends have a try at the wheel, but there's a couple of younger guys I'd feel a bit twitchy about giving ago...

I did let one 17 year old P plater have a short drive (just a few hundred metres up our quiet dead end road to our gate) and he did a great job. Very proud of the fact that he didn't stall the car at take off - which his Dad just did. :p

Mine is about $1000 with Suncorp Metway. $650 exceess, no under 25's, rating 1 for life etc...

AAMI sounds OK, until you drive around and see the panel shops with the signs out the front "NO AAMI QUOTES". Well, that was a few years ago. Maybe times have changed, but that was enough to put me off.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I think that was a couple of years ago, and there are still some war stories around, but certainly the repairer I have used in the past in Canberra, Barrett Bros, works with AAMI and does excellent work (suddenly falls to knees and prays this thread does not come back to haunt)

Well mine was about $860 from Suncorp Metway and nearly had to use it last week when a Hail Storm went thru my area (first one in over 10 years).

As luck would have it my RX8 was safe at home while my other car was getting a cut & polish at a Panel Beaters.

Went out and bought myself a "scratch it" later that afternoon.

I am rating 1 and have my insurance at my folk's place at inner eastern suburb in Melbourne. At 29 y.o, I am getting a reasonable offer from AAMI for $1315. I am sure if I hunt around it will be cheaper. But it allows me 3 mods... so very hard to choose - my top choices now are bodykit, wheel and muffler

I'm with AAMI - their repair policy sucks!!!

When my car was egg damaged, they weren't going to carry out repairs to make the car "as new" to my satisfaction. I paid out $2k to get the job done properly, but ... the lazy **** that I am ... I haven't tracked down another insurance company yet (that will no doubt be more expensive).

Why not? What is the policy of repair guartantee for life. Anyway, you can choose your own repairer and get a quote from them before you carry out. I have a repairer that I knew from past experience that they are good and the AAMI in my area use them a lot. Not that I wanted to visit them!

AAMI is rating 1 for life. My friend's boxster S changes his front spoiler after having a minor scratch - he asked the repairer to update his spoiler to 2003 model. THat bastard has a new spoiler for $450!

Does it work for MazdaSpeed front spoiler do you reckon
