Exclamation First insurance quote for an Aussie RX-8

I know that insurance quotes will be different for everyone and that insurance quotes in general have been discussed extensively in earlier threads. However, I managed to actually get a quote today. I have tried several times previously but with no joy as the insurers simply didn't have the car on their systems.

There are many factors that will determine your RX-8 insurance quotation. They are :

1. Power of the car's engine
2. The car body style
3. Your age
4. Your accident record
5. Your no claims discount
6. The location where the car is kept

The whole thing is a ratings system with points allocated for each section. Locations have ratings that are related to the risk of car crime in that area.

The quote I was given is with Allianz (who are known to be expensive but have very good policies). The engine was classed as a 1.3 Litre, body is 4 door coupe, I'm 34, no accidents involving 3rd parties but 1 claim on my previous car, 40% no claims and I live in Avalon. My quote is $2,600 per year. The car is rated around the same level as a Holden HSV, but below a Suburu WRX and a Nissan 200SX.

One point I noted is that Allianz will not insure anyone for an RX-8 who is under 30 years of age.

I intend to get quotes from AAMI, GIO and Just Car Ins. I think I can get it down to about $2,000.

So far, only quote I can find for me (25 y/o male, lifetime 60% no claim, 1 speeding fine 2 years ago) is approx $2,150 I think that was Suncorp Metway. www.suncorp.com.au they're the only ones so far I have found who have the the 8 in their system.

Depends how you're financing it, but if you're doing a lease, then you might be able to get fleet insurance, which is about $2,200. That's pre-tax too under a lease :D

Looks like no Allianz for me (I am 28). I have a 60% NCB however which I have held for 5 years. One claim in 10 years, no speeding fines. I tried the suncorp site, came up at $2200 for me. Quite a jump from the $1046 I just paid for the 1998 MX-5! I'll try the ring around if I have any spare time at work tomorrow.

i got a quote from AAMI $1612, rating 1 protection, private use, $68000 agreed value, 35 year old male driver, $450 excess. not bad. will go for it. budget direct gave a quote of $1950, suncorp $1800.

the initial AAMI quote waas for $683!!! i asked if it was a mistake and the person on the phone kept saying it was correct until i asked her to check with her manager. then it was revised.

i should have kept my mouth shut.

cheers

ok you ready for this?????????

I just got 2 quotes......I'm 29 y.o. with 1 speeding fine in the last 12 months, no claims in the past 5 years.

Quotes:
Suncorp- $2082 per year and $800 excess with no other driver allowed.

AAMI- $1186 per year and $450 excess lifetime rating 1, and my 28 y.o. wife can drive aswell!!

Agreed Insurance value is $68,000 for both quotes.

Hmmmmmmmm..... Wonder which one I should go with?

i'm 35, rating 1, no claims, no infringements.

Post code is 3136.
The girl i spoke to said she had to go and speak to someone as the car was on their list but had not been categorised yet.(what ever that means)
When she came back her words were..."my manager must be in a good mood".

I didn't ask or say anything special....just got lucky I guess.
I certainly made sure i wrote down the referance number she quoted.

She did mention that as i had been with AAMI for 4 years, that helped.

Hey i don't make the rules....I just break them.
I'm 29 turning 30 on 17th of August so maybe they made an exception?

All i know is that i'm sitting looking at my referance number now!!

I'm certainly not going to ring them and complain.

I just got a quote for AAMI. I am 28, max. no claim bonus. They were $2845. Think I will stick with the NRMA ($2070). Wizza, if I were you I wouldn't misplace that reference number. The difference between your quotes is astounding to say the least.

I have not ask for any quote yet. I will wait until my STI sold, then it will be the best time to ask them. He he, I will ask them about a new one when I discontinue my insurance for my STi. It normally works. I only paid $1750 for my STI.:p

Wow, it looks like I got a good deal. $1316 with AAMI. 27yo with max no claim and 1 speeding ticket last 3 years. No previous insurance claims. Living in Newcaslte. From what I have read in these posts, it looks like where you live makes more difference than your previous driving record or how old you are.

Good luck guys, shop around!

P.S. One sleep to go - pick up my car tomorrow (Wednesday). Sunlight silver with leather pack.

We're paying $1097 with AAMI, but then again, we're way more mature than you guys, absolutely rusted on rating 1 for life with house and contents, CTP and comprehensive on both our cars.

Bargain of the year !

Seeing as I started this thread I though Iīd let you all know how I got on with insurance. You'll be pleased to know that I didnīt accept the Allianz quote of $2600. But I didnt have to shop around either. The very next quote is the one I purchased.

Itīs with AAMI, includes my wife, and is.......wait for it.........$593.

Yes youīre reading that correctly. Five Nine Three. And Takahashi, I didnīt need to withdraw from my mortgage.

And get this.... the first set of paperwork they sent through didnīt mention cover for my wife. So I called them back and we checked through all the details again and the quote was the same.

Its now all paid up and I pick up the car tomorrow.

Yeah baby !!!
