Good onya Mum. :D

She obviously has great taste in cars.

I hope you both get a lot of fun (and interest) out of it. Apart from the sheer fun of driving I've certainly got a lot of pleasure out of fiddling with my car and learning more about rotary engines.

thanx for the warm welcome, i help operate a jap car club in melb so the interest in cars is always there. might transfer some stuff done to my lancer over to the 8. the one thing i really want to do, is put a LCD screen like the satnav screen in the US models, reason for that is so i can hook up the eletronic dials like the mazdspeed ones and display it on the screen. think that's my main goal for the time being

hope i can be of some help to this community

Yeh, that would be good Ezza. We've already got our own Aussie subject matter experts in a lot of areas, but no-one has seriously looked into Sat-nat / in car DVD/TV screens, so any contributions in this area would be most welcome!

hmm i've got one hooked up the the lancer, i'll get some pics up,
basically the unit is hooked to the ecu and displays it to the screen, the unit will show
-speed
-revs
-fuel (l/km)
-injectors percentage
and host of other features, u can then add an other unit to it that u can add other meters to eg, oil pressure, temp, boost, etc.
just need a place to put the screen, guess i'll have to explore the dash once i get it

Ezza,

All those engine operating parameters via the "other unit", do you hook that in via the vehicles OBDII port?

The RX-8 uses a newer CAN protocol, and the compatible hardware interfaces are only just starting to appear on the market.

Have a look at this thread if you are interested:

Cheers,
Hymee.

hmm... the other unit is known as the junction box, i'm not too sure how it works, as i haven't ordered one yet (only got hte main unit) but from what i know the juntion box hooked up to the main unit. the extra sensors are hooked up like how u would hook up an oil temp gauge and connects to the junction box.

here's some pics of what's the display is like from a LCD screen
www.iinet.com.au/~ericwlo/lancer/DSC00019.JPG

digital display of all info.

www.iinet.com.au/~ericwlo/lancer/DSC00020.JPG

info on mileage, l/km, running time, distance and average Km/h
www.iinet.com.au/~ericwlo/lancer/DSC00021.JPG

analog display of rev and speed
www.iinet.com.au/~ericwlo/lancer/DSC00022.JPG

analog display of fuel and injectors
www.iinet.com.au/~ericwlo/lancer/DSC00023.JPG

these are the information that can be shown using just the main box, like mention before extra gauges can be added.

oh and here's a tripper option on the unit, it's a virtual fishtank, that enviroment response to how u drive, cain the crap outta the car, and the fish will die, don't change the oil of the car, and the pollution level will rise

www.iinet.com.au/~ericwlo/lancer/DSC00024.JPG

the unit is made by HKS, and as far as i know, u can only get them in japan or USA.

hope this will spark an interest with you guys to help me implement this into the rx8
