Hi again,
Here's a picture of somebody increasing his usual top speed by getting around the wind resistance problem....
You get behind something going faster and make sure you keep up...
This was in 1995 and the dutchman on the bike was apparently 50 at the time!
Natty doubled up gearing on his bike.
Of course if you misjudge the distance and fall back into the turbulent air, it does get a teeny bit unpleasant.
Taka's a bike rider, so maybe we can mount a screen behind his 8 and see how fast he can go.... :D
There's a good account here of an early lunatic who set records riding behind cars:

I prefer fast downhill. From Lavers hill down to Apollo Bay I did 92 kmh in a scretch of road.

The fastest I've been on my bike was somewhere around 50kph (down a smallish hill) and I thought that was exciting enough.
I kept having visions of how much flesh I'd remove before I came to a halt, if I came off.... :o
I also couldn't help thinking about how the guys in the Tour de France seem to be able to AVERAGE that speed on some sections. Amazing....

Your effort of doing 40kmh is very low since there is like a BIG shield in front of you. I remember I did the Alpine Classic in Bright going up the Falls Creek. There were 100 of us in a group at the mountain at 45kph. At the top of the hill and I was alone.. oh maybe another guy too, doing 10kmh
But going down the hill, hands on brakes and tugging close to the apex is as much fun if not more than driving your 8 down the hill.
Oh as mad as I want to be Tour de France rider:
there is a mini mountain (800m) that we go pass before reaching the base Falls creek. We nearly ran out of puff when we reached the top of that mountain, but we did not stop there; only take a sip from the bottle, take a vest from the back pocket, put in on (hand free from handle bar style ), zip up the jersey, another zip of water and go down hill. I feel like a TdF rider than :D

25Km/Hr is as fast as I can pedal... 7Km is as far as I can ride, but every Sunday I get a little faster and a littler further...

No need for disc wheels.
Nowadays the rubber from and the clamp force of a DuraAce (top of the range gear from Shimano) can actually lock up any wheel (especially any light wheel from Mavic).
I actually feel nervous locking up the front and the rear is wagging, much like the rear of the 8 under brake at the end of the straight :D Sometimes I lock the rear and found a flat spot on the rear tyre :o - $50 down the drain ... or maybe use that as a training tyre.
I so want to ride today. It is 22 degree and sunny in Melbourne. In the middle of June!

You're inspiring me to get back on the bike.
It's only a mountain bike these days, but it's good exercise and a lot of fun doing a bit of bush bashing around the local trails.
Doing the Alpine Classic at Falls Creek sounds like a great experience, I admit to being more than a little envious....
Hmmm. If Hymee can do triathlons then surely I can get back on the bike. Lose a few spare kilos, and get some fresh air.... sounds good...

Now you're making me feel guilty too.
Did lots of road and track racing as a teenager then decided surfing and chasing girls was more fun. Still have a mountain bike in the garage but it doesn't get used enough these days. Might scrape the dust off it this weekend.

this Speed Limiter Remover is sure for Japan, because their speed is limited to 180km/h.
With the RX-8 you can reach perfectly 250km/h and if you continue you can reach (with effort :D ) 267km/h. There is no speed limiter, it depends on the circunstances on the day (weather, type of road, policeman :D )

ahh I dragged the pushie out on the weekend after 2.5 years off,... OMG!!!!! I nearly died... the legs just don't have it anymore..... going from 270 km/ week in my early -mid 20's to nothing probably wasn't such a bright move!....
I don't have anywhere decently flat to build up a bit of aerobic fitness either... it's hills as far as the eye can see
off to the gym to jump on a stationary bike I think...

I have a JDM car and have heard that the cut of is 205kmh but can't verify this as i have only been 183kmh which is over the 180k mark but sometimes they are not exact. I'll have to get back to you on this when i get a chance to stretch her legs....

It is 180kmh for all other car in the last 20 years! I doubt the RX-8 is the exception.
Do you why the meter in some of the Skyline GTR only reads up to 180kmh? and why some Japanese likes digital meter like in the S2000 and RX-8? Why they love imports like the BMWs. Cost no one in Japan can sell a local made car that has not fitted a 180kmh limiter. This rule does not imply on the import ... so the Ferrari does 300kmh down the highway is common scene in Japan.
There is aftermarket dash replacement showing 300km/h :p and a limit cutter like this that sells like hot cake in Japan - although apparently illegal. On the package, it should say the device is for track use only.
