But that was in the days of carburettors that used fuel with lead in it. You haven't been experimenting with any exotic fuels have you Hymee?
Depending on the shade of grey yes it means its tuned properly , if the residue gets whiteish its not a good sign as youre running too lean adding extra heat to the engine .
A faulty fuel injector would cause the car to run leaner hence the greyish soot. :D

Finally i think i now know the answer to why your exhaust tips arent going black ?
You are running out of oil in your car j/k
On a more serious matter , any updates on the" S "project the" C " project , and anything else we should know before Christmas / New Year break
Now before i get someone telling me to be patient , heres my prior response to you .j/k
cheers

Thought I'd haul this puppy up to say that I, too, have noticed my zorst tips are now internall grey and no longer black.
Noticed this today after a trip to Wakefield Park, where MACCAA and I had some...er...discussions and consultations with the people there...and tried out the track to make sure it was up to scratch.
I guess I did about 30 track K's...and noticed the grey immediately after my first session, which was maybe 18Ks. I note that I have had the recall flash, which may be a factor.
I also sensed that my track fuel consumption was lower, but I haven't checked that yet.
In my old Cooper S days, exhausts with this colour were regarded as indicative of good tuning
I'm not sure what to conclude in terms of the Renesis. Oil consumption was negligable -- maybe 250ml or less for the day, which was probably 300K all up

Maybe it's that good old clean country air.......but more likely the flash. Grey would typically be a good sign perhaps the higher average speed has some impact although 30km is bugger all in real terms. Where Mez and Taka on this one?
I use a Fujitsubo exhaust and it has always been dark grey, I only polish the outside but the inside is dusty as hell - maybe I should clean it as well... I think whether the Hymee inner coating does not keep the ash/dust after a while. Good work.
Not sure if the colour of the ash is of any significance.
