Done deal on my new black RX8.

My new black RX8 is in the driveway as of yesterday. Thanks to everyone who has given me advice recently on pricing etc. You really helped me get a guage on how far dealers will move when pushed. In the end, I am surprised to say I scored a much better deal than I thought was possible on this car. (To think I almost bought a Golf GTi for the same money!) I'm very happy with the price in the end;

I got;
Brand new Leather spec (red& black interior)
Sunroof
Tint
Rotary Crests front and back
Sides sptrikers thingys
Mats
Driveaway $51,500

To be honest, it's a bit of a grudge purchase 'cos I really just want to keep my MX5, but I need backseats with 2 kiddies. At first I wasn't too excited about the RX-8 as the shape feels like it's been around for 10 years...but at this price I can't complain. Black looks hot even if it's a BI@#H to clean.

New 19" wheels fiited today should spruce it up. Then I'll post pics.

Congratulations on your purchase. I guess those Americans are shocked at the prices we pay for our car. Although it is a bargain compared to what we early adopters paid for ours.

ToothFairy is from US, he/she thought you paid US$50k for the car, instead of A$50k.

Welcome, black is hot
who cares if it's a bi@#h to clean

That IS a good deal! Well done

Doing some quick maths, that's a saving of around $7500 on RRP. Is this a private buyers price, or do you get a fleet discount?

$51k driveaway is a good price for what you have got.

They are still only $30k in Japan & the USA so natural that they freak when they learn of the crazy prices we must pay for the same car.

More congratulations to Mazda Australia's profit margins for that.

Main thing is you love your new toy, the kiddies have some seats & its time to let the rotary bug bite.

One would have to do that type of deal on a car thats been out for 4 years and is due for replacement in 2 .

Resale values of the 2007 - 2009 RX8"s will take a tumble when the RX9 appears , so unless you buy right you are loosing serious money .

1 a : fall down, as if collapsing; "The tower of the World Trade Center tumbled after the plane hit it"
2 b : to perform gymnastic feats of rolling and turning "the satellite was tumbling out of control"
3 c : to fall suddenly and helplessly b : to suffer a sudden downward turn or defeat

I wouldn't count your chickens just yet Michael.

All first-generation products will have their pitfalls and don't offer enough value to customers. Mazda will build a new model to appease customer satisfaction, but will only provide us with a straight design which will lack the full capabilities of our current RX-8.

Its the second-generation models which will always integrate customer preferences and modelling, which will support a continuous business solution for Mazda. The vehicle design for the RX-9 might well want us to

Thats my 2c worth anyhow...

Mazdas strenght lies in its design ,so i dont feel they would go backwards , but if you are right i could allways try and shoehorn the next rotary engine into my current broken down RX8

Congrats Madkeen.

Where's the pics??

I hear you on the rear seats! I'd be driving a two seater if 'er indoors didn't convince me to act all crazy-like 7 and 5.5 years ago...

Yeah, thanks Col. I certainly benefited from our chats. I wouldn't have pushed down to the $51,500 mark on my own without a precedent...but glad I did.

All the extras inc sunroof were just a bit of negotiating **** - I found the right car on the right showroom floor at the right time. The money I saved let me stick some wheels on straight away. I'll sort some pics out soon.
thanks mate.

P.S To whoever asked, no, that was no buyer/fleet discount. Might have helped that it was the same dealer (by fluke) that I bought an MX5 from for the exact same price back in 1999!
