No excuse needed. Quite the contrary, I was rather fortunate in that a friend who was a car broker at the time (1990) put me onto the distressed executive fleet sale of Channel 10, which had just changed owners or something, and I picked up a 740 turbo wagon with 11,000k on it for $25,000. Best car buy I ever made, bar none, considering they were well over $40k, new and this one had the works.

As you were but a callow youth at the time , I will forgive you for being unaware these could do a sub-7s 0-100k, handled reasonably stock and, with the addition of Koni adjustables, turned into a very tasty drive (they raced -- the wagon!! -- very successfully in European production classes ). A great point to point car and one which in my lexicon of familiar, long distance drives, still holds many quickest times. Best of all, the bloody thing was seemingly invisible (it was white ): you could overtake a Hwy Patrol car and they'd never notice

Unfortunately, I got side-tracked a little later and made the big mistake of buying a Range Rover. But that's another story.

Actually, the tale of that Volvo and what happened to its resale value is the reason why I argue the Polo GTI will depreciate much more in the real world than a car like the SP23 /neatly back on topic

Okay, I give up.

I'm too tired to argue anyway.

And I was only pulling your leg about the Volvo.
