Which car?

Hey all...

i am looking at getting a new car to replace my old corolla and was lookin at a VW Polo GTI or an SP23 hatch...

Have driven both and they are very different cars.... and body have any thoughts or experienced to help enlighten me? ... Taka, i know you recently bought a 3...

it'd be nice to have a matching pair of Red mazda's...but the GTI is a great drive!

Tah

Why Polo it is much smaller than the 3.

I have not driven the Polo and did not consider it... is it a 1.6??

The Golf I like but the price I paid for the 3, I can only get a 2.0 with 15" that takes 98 octane only - I drove my friend's - very nice and they do 6km/L.

My 3 is the decision because of the boot size. I have the sedan and I love it. The suspension in on a bit soft but more than capable than some other smaller sedan.

My opinion why do you have 2 cars with very small boots....?

For EZZY = a 2.3L with wider throttle body, intake, header, exhaust and get 70kW before the turbo.

Polo GTI
stock: 110kw/229 Nm of torque (at 1,950rpm) and weighs under 1200kg: $28 - $29k*
APR'd: 152kw/328Nm of torque, introductory offer $1400 for 2 programs: around mid $30k* (1bar config)

SP23
Stock: 115kw/203Nm @ 4,500rpm and weighs 1232kg: $around $30k*
For EZZY = a 2.3L with wider throttle body, intake, header, exhaust and get 70kW before the turbo.
: probably enough to get a VW Golf GTi, especially with the new NSW modding law

* - plus whatever costs

if i have remembered correctly....the only downside on the Polo is that the engine is about 10 years old... (but quite strong)

I dunno... I checked the Red Book site and they seem to be around the same... $8,000 depreciation over 2 years (slightly more for the VW depending on the model) .... I guess that if you used the 3 to buy another Mazda you would do better than using the Polo to buy a Mazda.... However, based on my experiences with the Brisbane dealer I suspect that the reverse will not be true...

So...is that a definite maybe???

Redbook, schmedbook - I know what the average punter will place a higher value on in 3-5 years.

Oh really! That's a pretty big claim Perhaps with all that wisdom you'd better up the 'matta road, with flashy site full of used VWs

Tell you what Timbo - let's check out what used Polo GTi's and SP23's are selling for in 3 years time (not what some crummy dealer is offering for trade-in).

If the Mazda had lost less percentage, beers are on me.

BTW, must have another lunch soon.

well...i drove both again today ...this time for about 1 hr each .. and i must say that for a day to day car, keeping in mind i have the RX8 as the hot-shoe, the SP23 is the better option... the Polo is a great steer... but it is awfully small (cargo bay wise) had a few rattles already (500kms old) and the exhaust note, while nice and sporty became an annoying drone on the freeway that fights the stereo...and wins!

I struggled to find much wrong with the SP23 ....good power band (not like the turbo of course) .... great interior..probably get the leather, although we'll see what the price is like... I'm still not 100% sold on the look of either the hatch or the sedan...different colours look better on the different shapes... any thoughts guys...? ...but they do look better in the flesh.. Silver looks the go in the hatch ..especially the leather pack with the brushed wheels!

Now have to haggle a good price...Taka how did you go price wise and spec?

Another thing...how naff would it be..theoretically speaking...to have the matching colours with the 3 and the 8? Gay or cool? me thinks a bit of both!

Laugh all you want boys.

Proof will be in the tasting.

Anyways, I figure Timbo will have moved back to turbo Volvos by then...

Ahh... Cool most certainly.

Both my mx5 and SP23 are velocity red. Looks good in the garage. I could be bias though as I don't want to think I am gay at all... Not that there is anything wrong with that!

All that torque in a small front wheel drive car with even littler wheels

I would think that would not be a lot of fun. Put the foot down and torque steer right off the road. And in the wet... Oops I just had a bowel movement thinking about it

Just my 2 cents, but hey I could be wrong

Thanks for the support!

How's your SP23 been treating you? You happy with it? Any downers you'd care to share?

I've been given a price of $33000 - leather pack with cruise and mats on road... any thoughts?

I find the SP23 to be a great car. Very easy to drive in traffic, comfortable and built well. After 12 months I still have no real negative points I can think of.

With a quote of $33000 I would say they have moved very little on price. Negotiate harder they have plenty of room to move

Ha! that the best you can do?

Both my purchases were induced by the grinding poverty of mortgage and children. What's your excuse for the Ovlov??

and judging by the sexual innuendo covering the lounge and other threads I'd say you're overdue for a visit aren't you?

...to your Volvo I mean...
