I would'nt mind uprading my brake system too .

i think it'd be a great idea.
you need to be able to stop "properly" with all these extra hp you added onto your 8. trust me, speaking from experience, it is very importatnt to upgrade the brakes when you have significantly increased the hp/kw of your car.

Dave (Ciao) The problems with group buys is if you are importing then the relatively cheap price gets increased quite substantially by a) freight costs of large/heavy items and b) by customs duties and GST when the total amount including shipping totals more than $1000 AUD.

Not saying its wont be cheaper, but I dont think it will be substantially cheaper is all. And then when you have the hassle of importing everything to one location, then re-shipping it to many others, and the issues of collecting money from multiple people, people being in, then out, then in and back out again it can be a lot of hassle for a <$50 saving on a 9-1000$ item.

That being said, taka has good contacts with a guy here who imports Project Mu so with 5-10 we may be able to get something reasonable. RXVIII just dealt with a mob in Brisvegas who also do Project Mu. I know a guy in Brisvegas who might be interested in bringing in one of the Racing Brake models.

Kall, your logic is flawless but since when did modding cars make sense anyways?

We'd all be better off driving it stock and saving up for the next step up but we all like playing too much to do that.

I'm sick of painting the stock rotors to hide the rust and they've had a hard life already, so I figure this is a cheapish form of playing for now. With my rims the rotors and calipers are more visible than with the OEM rims, so it makes sense to pretty the brake area up. And if they perform a little better too, that'll be nice.

Yep, a pretty thin argument to spend $1Kish but WTF, you can't take it with you...

Not keen on doing anything with the drivetrain unless I go the whole hog and that's too exxy for me atm.

anyway, as taka pointed out, to replace 2 front rotors is roughly $800AUD plus labour. And that is for something that you point out need painting over and over again.

The Project Mu's for example can be had for roughly $100-150 more and never need to be painted and will last longer anyway. I personally don't see it as a mod if your rotors need replacing now anyway.

Racingbrake Drilled Slotted (Sport) One Piece, US$459 fr & back plus $80.70 shipping (I asked them), 4-6 week delivery. About Au$675, you'd be unlucky to get hit with GST but even so that's minor.
Not pushing anything here, sure that all the brands mentioned here are good. You get a lot of hits on 7 & 8 for racing brake. But you get a lot of hits for most things most places!! LOL!!

Mike,

Thats not bad for 4 rotors. Bringing in 1 set of rotors would not set you back GST and duty, only if the AUD value gets above $1000AU. Hence I was saying if you try and save on group buy and bulk shipping you loose a lot of it.

That's rotors only though.

You can get a complete kit from Racing Brake which includes calipers, rotors, pads, lines, etc. Not sure of the total cost though - Mike tells me it's too much for him atm and I agree for me.

I'm shelving the whole idea for a while.

do check if the brake lines are ADR approved. especially with braided lines, they need to be engineer approved.

Thanks for the tip.

At this stage, I'm thinking of just putting in my new pads and leaving the rest stock for a while longer.

Modding bug isn't biting as hard for some reason.
