Brake Pads

Any aussies had to replace theirs yet? Any idea of lifespan of these things?

Oh, and any good 3rd party brands to look for?

Searching didn't turn up anything useful, considering selling soon, so figuring if it's not too exxy, might do mine before selling up...

Hi pepe

I have the MazdaSpeed brake pads that I know it will match the stock rotor well.

Hymee has Endless S-SS and they are good.

Also seen a few new Project Mu.

Hawk and Fed...something are good brand that you can get locally. Loick&load has asked about them recently. Check the dba rotor thread.

To be honest. Most things are better than stock and cost nearly the same.

Pepe, the stock pads have a wear indicator. They'll screech like a bastard when the pads are too worn. Don't bother changing them unless it's making a hell of a racket. Just sell it as is....

Whadya gonna get, anyway?

My pads have screeched like a bastard since the thing was new...

Gonna get me a quad RB211 powered beast with 65,100 kW at the wings... (a 747 )

Going travelling for a year... was going to garage it for a year, but a guy here at work is keen for it. Will get them to check out the pads and see how far worn they are... guessing that's not really a user checkable thing? or should I RTFM?

If you've done less than 30K, they'll be fine......RTFM won't tell you more than I did!

Done 46.5k now, will be 50 by the time I sell it... would have thought for a car like this, that'd be in the ballpark of the time you'd start to look at replacements..

The Bendix are new so they havent had a chance to properly wear in so there is a very subtle noise but try stamping on your pads harder at about 60km per hour 3 times this hopefully will stop your screeching noise for a while .

cheers

I got the Hawk Plus pads when I got the slotted rotors, they were $176 +GST. Great pads no issues from them at all.

Kalli There is something that you can put on (or your mechanics ) to stop or at least reduce the noises.

PoLak has this thread up with pictures.

I had the same problem. Theres a fix that doesnt fix. But hell, it gets you a new set of brake pads under warrranty. So who cares, turn your music louder, and brake less!

Still screech,....

How much ... say if I have window down and radio off I will hear it easily, any time.

If I have the window up and the pads are cold, I will hear it, especially when I break hard. But other times, it is quiet.

But when the pads are warm, even if I am on the track breaking from 195 to 120 for the first turn. I wouldn't hear it at all.

Mazda i believe has been using different states of tune some cars running richer than others various materials on the brake pads on different rx8 S etc this would account for the differences of drivability between cars .

Drivers in real live situations make great guine pigs for all car manufacturers .

Mine is a bit over a year old now and I've not heard one peep from the brakes, whether cold or warm.

Go figure.
