ashtray lid broken

hi all

this morning while opening my ashtray lid (in front of the gear stick) to access my garage door opener remote, it broke. i heard the sound of plastic breaking. the lid doesn't stay opening now.

i have booked it for replacement. a bit annoying (car is july 2003 reg).

anyone else experience this?

regards

mike

Nope.. My lid feels firm.. Maybe you you should put your garage opener somewhere else like in the centre console area.

I knew there was something else that went wrong on my car i forgot about.

The spring broke or maybe has just moved away from it's place. So yes me too.

Infact the guy that installed my dvd player said he's seen this on a few rx8s'.

the lid is only noticable if you open and close it regularly. if you use it occasionally, you won't notice that it just falls shut.

get it to the dealer to have it fixed. i guess it might be a small design fault.

I recall among options is a non-smokers kit to replace the ash tray. Maybe that (whatever it is) is a solution??

I ended up putting my remote in the sunglass holder as my sunnies didn't fit. But now I leave mine in my pocket so I don't leave it in the car as I have heard of people's cars being broken into and thieves stealing remotes to break into your house. As they get in to your place with no sign of forced entry... good luck getting insurance.

Yep, this happened with my first RX8 - I must be one of the few who can actually say that

It happened iat the end of the first year (yes it was a July '03) as I was getting to my 40K service and I was going to get them to fix it then ... if fate hadn't intervened :o

OT: My other half heard some talkback radio in a cab the other day. Apparently the guy who caused the accident from tonym is out on bail and there are a number of people who are out to get him over the accident. He may not live to see his day in court.

C'mon sco, you should have at least a keylatch and preferably a deadlock on the entry door to your house from the garage. Garages are notoriously easy to get into (as I found out the hard way) :o but at least you might only lose a few powertools if you can stop them getting into the house.

We have a deadlock plus keylatch on the door connecting the garage to the house. As Timbo says, even garage doors are easy to break into. My roll-a-door opener is pocketable, but we had to get another brand of door opener for my wife's side, and that remote is a big sucker. Still, it might be worthwhile checking with the manufacturers to see if they make something more compact these days....
