YES but 2nd 3rd 4th 5th gear redlines are great, but i havent managed one in 6th gear but i am working on it .

Redlining is not recommended or indorced by L&L , i allways drive safely and never brake the law .( hymee is watching )

Maybe others are watching, who might be potential buyers for you "rare" Yellow RX-8 com disposal time. They might want to apply the "engine wear discount" policy :p

Good luck redlining in 6th BTW... you'll find it's rev limited to about 6000 IIRC.

Got my car back from the dealer after 2 days, they state the reason it would not start as fowled plugs, so they replaced them with hot plugs and reflashed, I expect to "G" but the could not confirm. They promise to inform me today!!
Ironically, they say mine was the first one that they had to get towed in but another 2 were towed in yesterday, all around the 10,000kms mark.
Mazda Aust called the morning trying to confirm the facts as to what lead up to the problem and said a couple of others had the prob after they had also been away for 1 week or slightly more, so they cars were used for that period. Sounds strange!
They also encouraged spirited driving as a way to keep the plugs clean....as if that was a problem!

Can someone confirm if hot plugs do actually have a negative impact on performance.

Hotter plugs won't hurt power. They have a higher risk of knock but that's all, because they're less recessed towards the water jacket. Should be easier to start and probably last longer.

Finally, a reply from MA:

"Thank you for your email though we regret to learn of your concern with your RX8.

We have contacted ********** and understand your vehicle has now been repaired. It appears a PCM upgrade was undertaken and this corrected the concern.

There is information in the owner’s manual regarding starting a flooded engine. See section Seven for further information.

With regard to your concerns with the roadside service offered, we advise that in a break down situation your vehicle will be inspected by a roadside agent i.e. NRMA, if it is believed they can assist. This can depend on the information given to the operator at the time. In the event of a break down, your vehicle will be towed to the nearest Mazda dealer and there is allowance for a $50 taxi fare if required"


But no comment regarding what happens over the weekend if only have one car. The way I see it, if this is a known problem they should have someone 24/7 to be able to rectify the problem.

Furthermore, in my situation I did the dechoking procedure as indicated in the manual without any results.

Not good enough MA!

Well my RX8 (jan 2004 build) just left on the back of a truck because it flooded and i couldnt get it started. I rang the service department and they told me this was the second one this week.
Not good enough for a new car. I am really pissed off.

I guess the only way to solve this is to burn some petrol while idle and rev it up before switching the engine off....

A known problem for rotary and I agree with AMG... we should have a secure mind with a 24/7 deflooding service --- should run over the Christmas -- new year period too!

Typical Mazda response .

I would tell Mazda to shove section 7 up you no were , its simple not good enough to sell a car in this day and age that floods so easily .

Luckily i allways drive reasonable distances and with spirit , otherwise i am afraid my engine will flood , on slow short distance type driving .

Maybe Mazda will pay us for when we get speeding fines so we can try to stop the flooding problem .

I find it quite humouring when they wrote "It appears a PCM upgrade was undertaken and this corrected the concern."

The PCM was done just over a week before the flooding,which according to their circular was, amongst other things, designed to prevent with the flooding problem.

My problem occured by an accidental stall, what if this happened in a shopping centre, would I have to leave my car in the centre for the whole weekend?

What if I was at an isolated service station in the middle of nowhere?

Wonder if MA is listening.

I find that the most concerning thing about the official response.

Which of these statements is the truth???

- The G Flash addresses flooding issues.
- Your car was flashed with G the week before.
- Your car was flashed with the G after the breakdown.
- Your car was flashed with a more recent release than G.

just to add some more info to the flashing issue. When I picked up the car the service bloke at the dealership said they had contacted MA regarding the issue, they were asked if it was on the latest flash. The service bloke did not mention that the car was reflashed.

An official MA response would be good rather than what appears to be a lame attempt at being official.

Ooooh, mine is Jan 04 too......there goes the "G" flash flood theory......

One question though, rotary4me and AMG, do you guys drive your cars daily....Did this flooding occur after the car had been standing for a day or two??

Gomez, the 8 usually gets driven on weekends ( but not every weekend). When I had the car serviced 2 weeks ago I was told that my car was updated with the latest flash which they received 1.5 weeks prior.

Regarding arguments of cars being driven daily v's sitting idle. My Series VII RX-7 was driven last saturday for the first time this year. Didn't skip a beat.

So the flooding occurred after the first start in a week? Thinking out loud now, I wonder if fuel is finding it's way into the combustion chamber during an "extended break" as a result of residual fuel line pressure after shutdown...these things don't have return lines back into the tank like most EFI vehicles.....Must do more research!!!!......

OK Gomez, more info for your research. The car was initialy started in the garage, then reversed out to warm it up in the driveway, it was at this point it stalled and could not get it started again.

for your info - yes it had been probably 4 or 5 days since i had used it because i had been ill and couldnt go anywhere. Just as i start to feel better and decide it was time for a drive this happens.
However for the record i had noticed recently when i stalled the car a couple of times that it would not restart until i applied the 'mazda flooding starting technique'. So i had a feeling this day was coming because of previous posts i had read.
Regardless of how often it is used this should not happen.

Damn, feel sorry for all of you who have been "flooded".

The RX-8 will be my first rotary, and the most expensive car I have personally owned. Having issues like this is something that I - and all RX-8 owners - don't want.

Certainly hope a solution is arrived at soon for you guys and well before I get mine.

I agree with AMG that Mazda Australia's response is not good enough. Especially as Australia is almost the most expensive place in the world to buy an RX-8. I know from first hand experience that certain German car makers are much more responsive to warranty and operational issues than MA appears to be.
