Rx8 Owner Manual for JDM or another Octane Question

I have a JDM rx8 and i beleive that downunder you have the same model.

Here where i live the octane is rated in Ron and there are two types available 88 Ron and 97 Ron. I do not have a manual for JDM so need your help.

What is the RON recommendation for rx8. I beleive that for usa it is 91 octane but their octane number is different than ron as it is ron+mon/2.

If somebody can give me australian rx8 manual then that would be great.

Thanks

I'm not sure if the rating is the same there but here we use 95 RON or better (e.g. 98 RON).

So to be on the safe side, I'd use the 97 if I were you.

95 RON is equivalent to about 90-91 octane. RON is about 4-5 points higher than the equivalent octane rating used in the U.S. and some other countries. 97 RON it is.

The lower the octane rating, the more prone the engine will be to knocking/pinging (early detonation)

not good!

Use the highest octane rated fuel you can get and you should be fine

I make gasoline for Shell - UserrName and dannobre are spot-on, RON is usually 4 or 5 numbers higher than R+M/2

So minimum 97....

January 5th will be TEN-months and counting, since I ordered and paid for a MazdaManiac turbo upgrade kit."

At least you didnt put the money in to the share market

10 Months for a turbo kit is a hell of a long time to wait

JDM model is not the same as we get in AU. The fuel available in Japan is much better quality and higher octane (Japanese use RON dont they?). I wouldnt touch the 88 RON.

Cheers

Hmmm well actually we are both right but technically I think you are . 100 is the rating used under similar condition to the MON rating, the 130 rating is under "supercharged condition with a rich mixture, elevated temperatures, and a high manifold pressure" (thanks wikipedia). I never knew there was 2 and my father is a pilot and he always talked about avgas being 130...so there you go! Learn something new everyday :p

Cheers
