In fact, they will need to be recalled. :p :D

Does anyone know if the lower control arm recall requires a wheel alignment to be carried out afterwards?

I need to get an alignment done before the Nats, but if that is the case, I'll wait to get a free one from Mazda.

Only if they replace your lower control arm. It's a visual inspection for a particular sequence of part nos

I just had both the recalls done yesterday. I am a little curious because I at no stage received any notification from Mazda about the recalls. I have always had my car dealer serviced so I guess they just assume that when I bring it in next they will do it.

I have noticed however that my car now has a slight engine rattle at very hard acceleration, I am curious about the cause, I am sussing out whether it is part of the heat shielding they put on yesterday that is causing the noise or whether it is pinging caused from my recent change to regular unleaded petrol. I have always used premium, however I had to do a fill up with regular unleaded becauses the other pumps were out of order, I then got 20% better fuel economy with no loss in performance. I have then started filling up with regular unleaded.

For those in the know, does pinging in the rotor sound like a slight engine rattle (mind you it only happens during hard acceleration) or is pinging a different sound again. (Sorry to highjack the thread a little.)

Sounds like pinging here too..

But I must admit I have never heard a rotory ping - this being the first one I have ever owned and I am never going to stick standard unleaded in my car..

Welcome back Gibbo...

Hymee has had pinging under hard acceleration when he ran a tank of standard unleaded... he quickly changed back to Optimax.

I've only ever run 95 RON and above.

What's Wildcard got to say about this - he's been running standard unleaded for ages hasn't he?

Yeah - so had Gibbo. But then he got a new flash, didn't he?

It might have more agressive timing, or be running leaner.

Sounds like it is "talking to you" Gibbo.

I have heard mine talking to me when I tried a splash of ULP. I've also heard Wildcards pinging it's t_ts off when we played with the TSI unit. The TSI unit was tuned to suite the flash in my car at the time, and Wildcards had a different flash.

We have some cool new things in sCANalyser, and one of them is to display the knock-retard being applied by the PCM. Theoretically, this should show something when you experience pinging.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I must be deaf then, or maybe I have my stereo up too loud.

I'll have a listen once I get the new flash.

Thanks fellas, oh well back to premium for me to see if the noise goes.

Hymee, did you ever get a good tune out of the TSI unit, I am sick of the performance, or lack there of out of mine.

Cheers.

It has been sitting on the shelf for about 18 months. We got it out again for the S/C project. But then we made the breakthrough with the motec. If we had done that 18 months ago we could have saved buying it (TSI) at all.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Which Page?? :p

I have read his latest updates including the testing which is great, however there are about 40 pages that I did not weigh through. Anyhow I do not want to side track this thread any longer.

Thanks for the help.

okay, lets get back on topic again.....

took the 8 in again today, they have changed the spark plugs and starter motor (what a difference in sound and response ), replaced the cup holder cover, replace one of the rear door locks and "fixed" my brake squeal....

very pleased with everything except for the brakes part, so will be taking it back again monday morning and maybe this time i will take mr. mechanic out for a drive (dealt with the service manager today, and apparently..... they dont "just" change the brake pads to get rid of the brake squeal.....?!?)

saw choppy's SS 8 this morning, the gearbox is getting rebuilt , a silver mazda 6 MPS and a new mx5 on a hoist.... so it was a pretty sight :D

on the way home this afternoon, sitting at the lights and notices abit of discolouration on top of my gearbox, looks like the "polished" silver bits are worn and you can see through the yellow-ish plastic underneath (see attached pic). remembered there's some discussions about it before.... can it be replaced under warranty?

Can't really make out the discolouration from the photo.

I'd give it a go but I think they will probably just say it is normal wear and tear.

No, now I'm just getting blinded by the glare in the shot! Also distracted by the bracelet! :D :D

Relax, I know what you mean now.

Funnily enough, the only thing wrong with my car when I got it as a 6 month old demo was a lot of little scratches on the left hand side of the metal (look ) ring on the gear shift ****. Obviously, it had been driven by plenty of blokes with chunky wedding rings on and they left their mark (bit like counting the rings on a tree or checking out your G/F's - whoops, better stop right there!!!! ). I only wore my wedding ring for about a month - hated the damn thing, like I hate wearing any kind of jewelry.

Would be great if they recalled the gear shift ****. (says Dave, realising that yet again he's drifting awwwaaayyyy from the topic). :o

Ezzy - considering the beautiful work that you have done on the rest of the car, why don't you just get the **** coloured the same as the bonnet badge...

EZZY, yes, I got my shift **** replaced under warranty -- mine wore on the other side (ring!)
