For those of you concerned about your lower control arms, I have taken a few pics to show you (what I believe to be are) the batch numbers. The recalled batch will be K4.......however that is yet to be confirmed by Mazda Australia. I went all over these castings, and these stamped markings are the only likely candidates IMO.

They can be seen with a mirror and torch with the car on the ground. I have included a wide angle shot for reference. My car has L4 on the left, and MQ on the right. I'm in the clear.

Oh, and those photos show the lower face of the lower control arm. To see the numbers, place a mirror on the ground behind the wheel and angle it until the casting number is visible. I had the car on ramps to take those pics above.

I just posted a reply ... and the post disappeared... weird?!

Thanks for posting those pics Gomez... FP and FR here . Thought I wasn't looking in the right spot last night when I saw FR (thinking Front Right)... but it's on the left (but it could be the right if you look the other way :p)

Taka

It aint necessarily so :p

If your car happens to re-called and the lower control arms and ball joints require replacing you will also be up for the cost of a Wheel allignment so it wont be altogether free unless Mazda covers the cost of the wheel alignment , which i dont think they will be happy doing , but they should .........so insist on it . :D

As both the castor and camber settings will be altered when the recall is done , you will need a Wheel Alignment .

B....free

Wouldn't you reckon they WILL HAVE TO do the alignment if they change the lower arm? There is no way the wheel is aligned after any suspension change.

Any garage will know that. It is just basic stuff for them - of course that will be free.

Great info Gomez. My car is later than the lower control arm recall and I find it hard to imagine the situation where the heat build up would occur. I mean just how often does anyone sit idling at high revs for a long period of time? Anyway, I'll just keep enjoying driving and wait from the letter from Mazda.

I mentioned the recalls today to my dealer when I took my change of address form in. (Thanks for the heads up on that one by the way). I got the standard response my service department - it was news to them. I swear I have taught them way more about the car and various recalls than they have done for me.

I just check the arm myself.

I have J1 on one side and J2 on the other. So they are not K4s.

However, why different batch on 2 sides? Gomez, are yours different on 2 sides too?

Who knows,

maybe if they were both labelled "J2"

the dealer wouldn't know which ones left and right like a couple of ya swaybars!

Thus you got an even worse case scenario, 2 left control arms...

Just got a letter from the dealer. I thought it was the recall letter, but it's only a reminder that I should bring my car in for 6mth service and that they were sorry I hadn't brought in my car for the 1k service.... WTF??? I DID take it there for the 1K..... Are they trying to tell me that all they did was wash my car?????

I should give nojooc a call..... it was the service centre attached to his dealership....

It says I should take it in september, I guess if there are any issues re: recall they will fix it then. This time I'll bring a check list for them to sign for all the issues and checking I want them to do. So saying that, the car is fantastic, no problems at all. zip, zero problems.

Cheers,
Azza

Mazda Australia will be sending recall letters out in the next seven to fourteen days.....call Mazda Customer Service on 1800 034 411 if you are unsure that they have your current address details.

You'll need to supply them with your rego number.....

Gomez.

Oh, I forgot to put this up earlier.....it's what the dealer will look for when they do the Lower Control Arm recall. You can see the pics of my lower control arms earlier in this thread.
