Yep, they do not recommend against using it

They do support the use of it.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Haha I do think they play pretty safe and do not make a very clear stand point on the issue....

I don't think I'll ever do enough KMS in the car to notice any long term damage, I usually trade them at about 30,000kms.

I think its very unlikely that any damage will be done to the engine by running alternate fuels, especially as I do not drive the car hard.

Perhaps a lower risk of damaging the engine if flogging it all the time with a higher octane fuel? But if the engine isn't pinging I can't see any issues.

I'm sure Mazda also reduce the risk by running the engine rich in the first place.

Hymee - have you sucessfully leaned out your vehicle or done any gas analysis? My estimate is that the RX8 is jetted very rich from the factory.

The way I read it, Mazda tolerate it (possibly because as a political cause it is gaining traction), but do not recommend it. Note that among all the points they list, they have not said anything positive.

On the energy side, you'll get a slight increase in RON, but fewer km in your tank.

Of course, there's nothing like a bit of people power. If your local pollie is pro-EtOH, tell him you'll vote for another guy if your car suffers damage.

Yes, lots of analysis. In closed loop (i.e idle or cruising along) they run perfectly stoich. And so they should, that is what closed loop is all about. In open loop, i.e. under high load conditions, they run way richer than necessary for maximum power.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Ahhh... that makes perfect sense...

Deano you don't feel anything because you are at close loop most of the time. To be honest to say, it is pretty hard to do :peace:

I'm experimenting at keeping it at 3-5k in an attemt to get some fuel economy.

I admire you

Resisting temptation of reving an 8 is something a man like me cannot do
