2008 Federal budget on Luxury Car Tax: Impact on RX8 prices
I change the title for better understanding on the topic.
Speaking of the budget!
I am angry
at the changes on FBT! Doctors and nurses in particular thrive on the FBT to bring the taxable income and hence the their relevant tax bracket down.... well it is very attractive for nurses to work in the public hospital now.
The day that you can salary package your wedding is gone

I also believe that the average Jo blow has a lot to do with their circumstances financially and socially than what governments do.
Anyway I agree with Matt13B, on the new RX-8 (facelift). Fuel prices will have a dramatic effect on sales and that goes for all guzzlers. The only thing Mazda Australia can do is make the retail price attractive and keep it under the LCT thresh hold.
One or two thousand is not going to make that much difference to resale values for current owners when you already lose a third from day 1.

$55840 = 0 luxury tax.
Remember that luxury tax is only paid on amounts over the threshold.
The increase is 8% or $80 per thousand.
Most people will find a way to offset that as a business input.
In 2010 the tariff will drop from 10% to 5% so in theory that would drop another $2500.
That will make imported cars up to about $120000 cheaper despite the increase in luxury tax.
