I've got a photo ID Wakefield licence that does not expire till November. How can I tell if it's an ASSA version?

I'd prefer not to have to pay $50 to get an ASSA licence just for a single day's driving.

If I have no choice though, is it simpler to fill in the form Taka has linked us to or contact Winton direct? If the former, I note it requires a signature from the nominating club. Who should we send our forms to in order to get that signature?

Suggest this be looked into and people advised (especially the interstaters) to avoid confusion and disappointment on the day.

The Wakefield Licences most of us have are pre-ASSA.You'll need a new one.The good news is it will be valid at Wakefield if issued at Winton.Or you could get a new Wakefield Licence...

Anyone who wants to organise the AASA licence.

You can forward the $50 and the application form to us and we will give you an email that we have received it (please leave us your email addy), sign it and forward it to Winton for you.

I will update this to the announcement sections.

PS if you are going to Wakefield anytime you can get one there....

PPS. As Black-8 has clearly pointed out, you can always organised it on the day. However, some prep will make our lives much easier...
Also, make sure you remember the AASA number, just in case that you forget to bring it with you. A photocopy of the licence and store it in the driver manual, or somewhere in the car will be good too. That save a lot of hassle .

Cheers
Taka

Thanks for clearing that up guys but I'm mystified why Wakefield/Winton won't validate a current Wakefield licence for ASSA purposes.

I will send the form and a cheque for the $50 to OzRenesis. Thanks for offering that service and I agree it beats 30 odd people trying to do it on the Saturday morning.

Sorry Guys. Struggling to string an hour together at the moment.

Can I please ask that people ensure they put their forum name in the relevant field (top right) of the entry form.

Also, please remember to put your name as the outward reference on your electroinic transfers. "Nationals", etc doesnt help me

Cheers

Andrew

Mikey, it is a very quick way to get yourself killed... if I will live if I ask the same.

It is good to prep your car before a track meet guys, especially if the last oil changes were sometimes ago.

Whoever does your gearbox change, ensure they measure out the correct amount and dont just fill to the fill point. This is to much and I reckon is the cause of the gearbox oil smell in the cabin problem people are having (including me). I nearly passed out on teh way back from winton last week.

Is there some sort of vent or cavity for the oil to leak out of if the oil level is too high?

Thanks for the heads up Andrew.

MikeyR is playing mechanic, I'm passing spanners and beer and trying not to break anything. ;-)

I thought it was because some oil is spilled when filling up last time.

If it spill out from the filling hole STOP... do not temp to add anymore.

Yeah, it takes ages for the smell that transmission oil makes to go away ... it smells quite bad as well!

If the vehicle (any) isn't nice and level it's easy to overfill. Ditto the smell of slowly cooking oil from spills, can take time to go away. A cloth with some detergent after completion is essential.

Combine both effects with oil spilling from the breather!! Ugly!!

A plastics bag on the cat. was bad enough!!

I'll be careful!!

OK I am discussing this at the moment with RXVIII. I believe that by filling to the fill hole you are adding a few ml (maybe 100ml) extra of oil. There is definately a breather on the transmission, and if there is to much oil in the transmission I suspect you are doing things like not being able to cool the oil as fast, closer to the breather and so comes out the breather as oil instead of vapour, etc.

I am going to take one for the team and do ANOTHER oil change, this time I am going to test how much comes out and where the exact amount gets me to the fill line.

My Mazda dealer did the diff and gearbox oil change for me. They had to feed the oil from the Royal Purple via a tube as the could not pour directly from the bottle into the filler hole.

They said it was a time consuming process as it took a while to gravity feed the oil through the small diameter pipe....I should have gone to the garage and taken a photo of the car on life support.

I hope you set aside enough time if you plan on doing this yourself.

Dont take this the wrong way, but your mazda dealership should be able to figure out what a bunch of backyard wannabe's can and thats that you can get a hand pump and do it in about 5 min. I hope they didnt charge you extra!
