Good point... what they are saying is ...

You make your choice, we don't care

We all know that RX-8 is in the list of capatiblility.

The only question is what happen using ethanol blended fuel in hot summer days

Hi

You should PM Hymee as he is the one who sells the grilles.
I will be at the airport in Brunei for 2 hrs on my way to London on the 30th April.
If you don't make it to Brisbane maybe I could drop it off on my way through?

Laurence

Taka,

Quite a few of us have now had to replace engine mounts (mine are getting done tomorrow). I wonder if we should post something here so people buying second hand know to check for that potential problem.

I'm not sure if symptoms differ but for me at least there is increased noise and vibration in the drivetrain at idle that disappears when the accelerator is pressed. Tell tale sign is increased shake of the gear lever at idle.

Cheers,

Got mine replaced about 2 weeks ago and the vibration has improved 70%.
Still about the same (as prior to replacement) when it's cold.

You wont have to worry, gibbon. You have the latest spec mounts on your car.

Mr. Sam in City Mazda just look at mine.

He said mine is perfect.
The rattle is from the gauges or all that "geeskmo" I installed on the dash

I figured it wouldn't have affected me for a long time anyway, but I didn't know mine had updated mounts. Nice, thanks.

Incidentally, I've been more or less following Taka's running-in method from earlier in this thread (slowly building up the revs), and the car has 1,300km on it and a fresh gut full of Mazda Rotary Oil in it now, so I'll start to strectch its legs a little over the next few days. I have another 300km drive ahead of me tomorrow

I'm discovering the addictive nature of the RX-8. I was supposed to spend last weekend packing and cleaning my apartment (I'm moving), but I kept on finding reasons to go for a drive and ended up getting bugger all done I even went for a drive down to the Gold Coast to go to KMart

Well I picked up my car after work yesterday after having the engine mounts replaced.

Seems to have cured all of the vibration at idle. Can't comment on the 70% assessment posted above yet - too short a run home to really notice any residual problem. Will see what it's like next time I take it for a longer run.

'Mez seems to have answered your question but for what it's worth mine kicked in a tad over the 22K mark.

I think I lost an engine mount last week. It's idling rough and the gear stick is moving excessively compared to how it was before. Also it tends to rock a bit under very slight acceleration in heavy traffic.

I'll get it checked out on my 60k service. Haven't had this problem before btw.

Does anyone know of any solid replacements for the engine mounts though?

You have bigger problems then that. A broken mount doesn't make it idle rough. You best look elsewhere. How's the performance? If the performance is off have someone check the engine.

maybe you need a coat of paint on your calipiers.

or as richard says, get it checked out with your service centre. anything that "suddenly" happens has got to be bad news.

Performance is fine ... it's just engine mounts. Just checked it yesterday afternoon at a mate's place. If anything else is wrong I'll be quite amused.

Has everyone experienced problems with engine mounts? Is this an inherent problem with our cars?

Some dealer loves to do warranty job. And they are surely justify it.

In consumer point of view - engine mount is a wear and tear item - of course it is good to have a new one. :peace:

Although I'm sure Taka is right about some instances of 'warranty' work, there are a number of us who experienced vibration symptoms of one kind or another that disappeared after upgrading the mounts. I believe that after a certain build date all new cars were fitted with the upgraded mounts, so it shouldn't be an ongoing problem.

A search might yield more info...
