The way I see it if you want a real power effect out of the RX8 there are only two ways to go

1. FI
2. Open up the engine a port it.

Otherwise you get very little and limited bang for your $$$

Very true... I totally agree with that. Although I am not sure what you mean in the 2nd point. I think you mean you will get true power by trickering the port of the SAIS. I think so too. By lieing the air flow and changing ignition timing will only do very little - it may "smooth" out the factory setup by multiple points like I have done. But there is no way to gain a lot of power. Anything there is will be lucky.

What we need is a brandnew ECU that change the SAIS too! Like the iVTEC in the DC5R... changing the fuel map gain 6ps max, change the iVTEC you get 20kW at the wheel :D

Let us pray for it to come - one day

EDIT: AMG - still to my recall. There is no bang for bucks for the RX-8. For me now except suspension and slick tyres for me - to drive better. Doing the engine is a waste of time unless you are supercharging it. Thinking of AMUSE has all the front intake and straight pipe done and guess what - 114kW at the wheel.

good on ya taka, remind me to buy you a drink when you are in town . its always good to "try" new things, and hope you have enjoyed every minutes of it.
pls let us know in a few weeks time.... if you are still happy/please with it. :p

i always believe that tuning is the most important in gain power + reliability. i have done it a few times with a stand alone ECU for my piston engined, turbocharged mazda and a piggrback ECU/chip for my audi 1.8T. both times were great, and got the results i was after. selecting the tuner is very important :D

thats pretty good, is that with normal price tuning?
with my last stand alone ECU, it was $1300 supplied + $600 fitting + $450 once off tuning price (i had many many tuning sessions for different items added later..... connection cuz...)
with my piggyback $1000, tuning free of charge (connections bro....)

yeah taka, im pre-occupied with other stuff atm, and i will get something from my supplier OS soon. there is a very good/reputable Power FC turnier here in sydney, hence im tempted to get one.... just give me some time hey.... :D

e

ps.

E,

Normal price tuning is $450, Unichip is 795 which inc installation. So about $1250 in normal price.

Power FC I do want, although might be expensive and I am sure when it comes out I will not be the first one to get tuned this time.
I do know someone tuning Power FC in Melbourne too. When it comes it will be exciting. Make sure it is really for Oz spec RX-8 and it hopefully will be compatible with the BCM of the Australian spec - (that is what I gather from Hymee's reply to the thread re: the FEED ECU). The ECU needs to talk with BCM? Hymee, correct? If it is true - then it will be a problem.

Colour code - you mean brillant black colour code? It is AF-1 (I am not sure) - but it is written on the metal plate on the firewall. Just open up your bonnet.

Power FC should be an interesting proposition...... I'm keen to see it as well.

One thing about the Power FC is that even the baseline settings are so far off whack straight out of the box, that it's not really plug and play.

You better hope you have a decent tuner available since you're going to have to spend a s***load just on getting it to run properly...... should be worth it in the end though.

hehe that is why I am not the first one to get tuned. But I am sure there will be some sort of base map from Apexi...

Hymee you better get hurried :D

You are correct Taka, the Power FC does come with a preloaded base map from Apexi, but the problem is that they are usually so far out of whack it's not funny.

Just ask anyone who has fitted one to their car, 90% of them will confirm this is usually the case.

It seems the Japs are very keen on bolt on mods since labour is quite high in Japan, so Apexi preprogram their units to run (overly) rich to cover their own behind.

yes, i'd strongely suggest to have the Power FC tuned, use the preloaded program as the baseline, chuck the 8 on the dyno and tune it properly.

My hair ... hehe for my Asian black hair, I use Wella light ash blonde 12/0 hehe :D

It will be fun to know the G flash tuning, and compare with the fully tune version. Won't that be fun.

the numbers aren't all useless. you just need to do a little more homework doing conversion.
