Sorry people, been busy with work and hadnt noticed the stream of questions.

Story is this. There were 25 places advertised because that is what we are comfortable with. This is about having fun, not racing each other around the track. the more people on the track, the less chance of open space in front of you and therefore less chance of you enjoying yourself.

As part of organising numbers I have to be carefull to have balanced groups of people. No point in having uneven/unbalanced groups on the track, it just leads to frustration. Frustration leads to stupid decisions, and we all know what that leads to.

Format for the day will be sessions of about 20 min which will include cool down period. there will be 3 groups of people, 1 - Experienced (on Slicks), 2 - Experienced, 3 - Inexperienced. 20 min will equate to about 8-10 laps depending which group you are in, and is about the limit that you will want to push your car in one go.

So far we have a number of people with either no experience, very little experience or very little confidence on the track. Its probably a few more than I would like to have (purely from a balance point of view), but we are dealing with it.

The last 3-4 min of each session will be a cool down lap(s). These laps will be a NO SPEED lap from the start/finish line onwards, ie you get to finish your last lap, but then must reduce speed by the S bend.

We will have access to the lights at the start/finish line and they will be used to signal drivers of cool down/warm up period and time to come off the track.

Please do not cross groups without consulting a marshal first as there will be consequences.

There will be a briefing session before we start where we will inform you of all the track rules, such as overtaking.

Cheers

Andrew

airbox23 <- Yes we have, and we will advise on the day.

astro <- you ran 1:52's last time. With your current mods, you will be < 1:50 this time.

Also, cost of an ambulance on the day has gone up $50 so total cost now is $3800 or $152 each.

Cheers

Andrew

Please feel the need of changing most of the oil. For me engine oil and diff oil is due for a change.

Check your tyre and for the RX-8 guys - check your wiper washer level - it will come on when you have low level and drive hard

Yes and please make sure you have plenty of tread on your tyres, it will be one of the things I will be checking. I would also recommend having an alignment done as well.

Taka are you trying to say that Mazda's use heaps of oil? And I thought they were a quality vehicle. Better get yourself a Subaru.

PS: I own 5 Mazdas so I'm aloud to hang **** just ask Rocco at Brighton Mazda.

I am amazed no one give the answer for 8 hours.

Why it is not Mazda, rotary uses a lot of oil. Engine oil is injected to the outer rim of the housing to lubricate the apex seal of the rotor.

It is only natural for rotary engine to use oil.

You see, I worry that not all RX-8 owners know this

Ha Ha...I just reply ... " Rotaries need oil for teh same reason a WRX needs a turbo...to be a great car".

Actually the reason I was posting was to link to this that I think taka pointed me to in the first place...cant remember where I got it from but its a 350z doing a low 1:40's lap of Winton

Where is the best place to get a helmet? Is it possible to hire them? If not roughly how much are they? Thanks in advance.

Brewer,

The easiest and cheapest is to get an open face helmet from motorbike shops. Heaps of them in the City, Ringwood, Berwick... etc.

Make sure they have an Australian Standard sticker.

AS 1698 is what you need.

A light weight one will cost more than $200 but basic ones you can get around $100.

Snell helmet starts from $500 plus, but they are cool.

Not sure about hiring though on the track.

NEVER use a hire helmet. You dont know whats happened to it. Apart from that just head to Elizabeth street in the city.

Cheers

Andrew
