Add another to the list of suddenly no longer being able to attend.

Just found out the company I work for for the last 8 years has been sold to another and am very much looking like I will be out of a job next month.

Have a company meeting about it on Friday (yep the day we are supposed to drive up to wakefield) evening with the new owners coming to state their intentions.

Sounds like the sales people will be fine but the studio is screwed as they already have a very big experienced design team.

Yes, Dad and Dave are attending, maybe even using road rubber...
My semi's are still on the car from last years Nats....
Oh well, see what happens on the day... Maybe Archie (mr Mazfix) can give me a set of tyres... if I let him put a huge MAZFIX rear window sticker on my car again...
.. I wish..
See you guys next week..

So let me get this straight - Andrew, Taka and Stu are all out now?

Sorry to hear that btw Stu - hope you get looked after in some way.

Otherwise, who will be running the event now? As in, on the ground at Wakefield?

I think it is unfair that Len and Don have to pick up the slack (again). What other OzRenesis members will be there?

Ok, given the rate of withdrawals and with Andrew's permission, I've invited RENEW and REACT members to come along for the track day only at a reduced rate to try to cover some costs (e.g. timing).

We'll also be putting the bite on people to help marshal when they're not running, so the whole load doesn't fall on Len and Don, who have been more than generous with their time considering neither own an RX8 (any more).

For those who whinge and would prefer this to remain an RX8 only pure event, you can blame the many owners who spend up big on mods but never enter such events.

This is looking like the last national event, so make it a good one.

I'm happy to help out with the Marshalling. I've done a fair bit at local motorsport events. The wife may be interested in helping out on the day as well, as long as the weather isn't too awful otherwise she will be staying indoors near the heater

Also sorry to hear from those who have had to withdraw. Hope things turn around for you guys.

Cheers
Tony

Dave

Janette did a spell of marshalling at Lakeside last year and she enjoyed it so I am pretty sure she will be happy to do it again at Wakefield - particularly as she is not driving this year.

I am more than happy to have a go at it as well - I agree we shouldn't let it all fall on Len and Don...

Cheers
Alan

As posted on the rx8.com.au, site, I've organised numbers for the cars (needed for timing) so please let me know if additional entrants sign on, so I can amend the order.

The withdrawals are a bit of a bummer, but if we all chip in (especially the RX-8 owners -- it's your Nats ) and avoid whinging, we'll all have fun

Happy to help with the marshalling as well. My wife will be the photographer then.

Sorry not being able to come. I am just as sad earning a few quid... and stuck at work.

EDIT: I now feel extremely bad...

I don't know what to say. Sounds like I have disappointed you guys. But I have duty to do and protect my workplace, my family and my home. I can't get my head around spending time and money on myself now. There are too much going on and sorry that I can't put priority right....

I have not been tracking for months for the same reason. I thought it would be quite ok after I qualify but quite to the opposite my priority has shifted...

Sorry

Many thanks guys for volunteering (offering wives too - that's brave!). I'm sure with a bit of enthusiasm as directed by the experience of Len, Don, etc we'll be fine on the day.

Taka, please don't feel bad mate. My comments weren't directed at guys like you, Andrew and Stu who have all turned up repeatedly and supported our national event (together with organising, etc). It's obviously disappointing not to have you there for those reasons but we all have priorities in life which trump a track day, especially one so far away.

I'm more disappointed in those owners who never give such events a go. Hopefully some of the new blood realise what they're missing and take over the torch for next year, etc.

Look forward to catching up with everyone who's going along on Friday night. Woohoo! Not long to go now...

Don't worry about it taka....priorities change as you move through life, and I expect before long you'll be just another middle-aged bloke driving a Camry

Seriously, I think there's just a fair bit of consternation that almost all the Victorians -- including everyone initially organising this event -- has pulled out. We had plenty of notice of this, and people did the right thing and committed (thank goodness, so it's your loss!).

Everyone always has "a good reason", but that's not really the point

Anyway, we'll get on with it, it'll be fun...and all those who have pulled out can rest assured we'll talk about you ALL weekend

Pity you can't make it Taka but don't feel bad - priorities are priorities..

Now I am set to go.
60,000km service done and all ok
brake pads 70%
brake lines bled
Bilstein PSS9s are in and Mazdaspeed suspension out

I am really looking forward to playing with the adjustments on Saturday. I have set the shocks to 3 front and 6 rear (1 is hardest setting and 9 softest) for street. Probably incrementally stiffen them at Wakefield just to see if a noticeable difference. I have kept the Mazdaspeed sway bars in.

The brake pads surprised me - they have done a few track days so I expected them to be more worn than that - Endless MX72s - expensive but seem to be worth the money.

Looking forward to a great weekend.

Cheers
Alan

I'm sweating on your MazdaSpeed sways Alan.

I'm gradually turning my car into a MS JDM (yo!) special - shocks, springs, struts, pads - now just need the sways!

I'm sure you'll want more adjustability after the weekend!

And yes, brake pads last quite a while in these cars. My old pads had done 6 track days...

Ok, to give people an idea of what's achievable around Wakefield (and reveal how crap you are ), here's some benchmark numbers from a test Motor did last year in a S2 GT.

Driven by professional steerer Warren Luff but in what seems to have been a very tight new car judging by the straight line times (7.58 0-100km/h).

Lap time - 1.11.8

Top speed - 164.34 km/h (front straight)

Turn 2 apex speed - 85.26 km/h (end of front straight)

Fishhook apex speed - 61.63 km/h

Turn 10 apex speed - 59.83 km/h (turning onto front straight)

This is NOT an incentive to drive like a maniac because most will not get near his lap time unless they've got experience and semi-slicks. Rather, it'll give you a feel for what the car is capable of without modifications.

...and also, what it (or any of those test cars) are capable of, when you don't own it or depend on it to get home!
Interesting, he does about the same time in the S3, if I recall correctly

Grrr.. I've had to bail. I will be going to work today instead. New blower not quite ready in time, not for a lake of trying and a week of late nights.

Cheers,
Hymee.

Matt, how well does that work? Enough water for a full wash? Enough pressure? Only problem is it would still be illegal here in Canberra:

"No washing of any vehicle except at a commercial car wash that recycles water and holds an exemption allowing use of potable water."

(oops, sorry to hijack the Nats thread)

I didn't even think of that! Just assumed the laws were the same as NSW. It only hold 15 litres roughly so it usually takes about one and a half fills to wash a car including initial hose down then final wash off. The pressure is not like a regular hose but it is more than adequate to wash a car with. I'll bring it just in case. It runs off the cigarette lighter in the car.

Great day, great time...I've posted a thread on the com.au site for results and pics. Great pity about the people who couldn't make it in the end....we missed you. Big thanks to Andrew for kicking it off and making the arrangements. Mate, you must make a rule to enjoy the good things you start!!
