hey matt you must have the dark background on...lots of us have the light grey background and we cant see the yellow writing
|
True...just click and drag to highlight so you can read. A little pricey for me but looks like an excellent add on!!!
|
ok hows that.. ?
I wish it were cheaper :( .. but its worth it for all that you get from the box :) |
Threw, I'd be very interested once it had a plug and play connector. For me If I ever have any problems, I want to be able to take it right out, go to the dealer and get whatever fixed. Without some load of BS from the Dealer claiming it's my aftermarket parts.
|
yes as is the case with most of us. I am very close to this happing.. and i hope to offer a package with my Harness, Av box, and the oem rca input that i will add the rca connecters to so it will go into the av box like mine is. Also still hoping to have the Pie aux input in this package.

2 questions :
1. With the AVElectronics box, I then need another solution to actually say, play a DVD? I would need a PS2/Xbox, attach it to the AV box, and independently power it somehow? 2. Any way we could get some type of clean install of the remote...or something a bit different? I know I'm being picky, but maybe something integrated like you have on the V1 radar detector would be nice. |
Yes.. I can mount the I/R recever in the mp3 blank for you if you would like.
ANd i am working on a deal for a good dvd unit that has a t.v. tuner in it.. but yes you need a dvd or xbox or play station as a source |

the old av box had a tv tuner built in...the new one does not but it does have independent video switching...ie you can have one screen displaying a dvd player another an xbox, another the navigations, etc...although you can get a sweet DVD player with tv tuner for really cheap
I bet thew will carry one...I'm playing on having a dvdplayerw/tv tuner and a modded xbox that way a movie or xbox can be on one screen and when I add another screen a dvd can be playing or tv tuner |

I bet thew will carry one...I'm playing on having a dvdplayerw/tv tuner and a modded xbox that way a movie or xbox can be on one screen and when I add another screen a dvd can be playing or tv tuner Ahh, that kinda sucks actually. Cause it's a small car so I really have no desire to get more screens. Just the one will do. This messes with my plans a bit of just getting the Av box and XBox going and having tv/dvd/mp3/games all available. Cause a dvd player is kind of redundant if you have the xbox dvd player already. Oh well I guess. |
i think they stopped it because it is a worthless feature.. even in down town L.A. it hardly get 's any stations.. But the Blapunkt me3 dvd unit has tv tuner built in .. and i am going to sell one like it that comes with a t.v. tuner. Or.. I will sell you my own personall AV box that has the t.v. tuner and get myself the new one :)
|
also let me ask them if they still have any of the older units.
Ohh.. and i can sell you a standalone t.v. tuner box to.. so that your Xbox can be your dvd player and then you can just switch to the T.V tuner.. |
am getting ready to Buy a few of these so if they have one with the t.v tuner i will get it.

Well, please don't do it just for me. I know I can live with an external tuner/dvd player if the one that came with it truely sucks. :) I'm sure everyone else would agree. I still have to actually get the car and scope things out. Should be in about 1 month after I finishing moving. I'll still be in your 'hood though, so I will more than likely be purchasing from you. |
NP.. if they have one with t.v. i have a few clients that still want that unit.. But I still think the T.V in the car is kind of a wast.. But ill get you what you need when your ready.
Update I just got word. They Do not have the older unit like mine with the T.V. They replaced that with a DVD,T.V,MP3 Single disk unit. .. So now we know. |
Bump
|
As soon as you get this unit to be plug and play, I will buy it. However, I am fairly (ok, very) car illiterate. How difficult would it be to wire a DVD/Xbox (or the AV box for that matter) to get power to them?
|
its easy. IF you buy it from me i will talk you through it on the phone, via chat. or however you like. The best power source is the Acc plug in your Rear console. so thats very easy.
and infact the 4 wire cut and solder is as well.. but I am working on that harrness every day :) |
Now I have the Pie adapter as will
|
Ok, heres the deal... I have the earlier version with the TV tuner, and I dont use it that much. I would rather have the S-Video version. I bought mine from AVelectronics earlier this year, for $525. I know Thew is selling his for less, however, I cant afford to lose anything. So here is what we would do. You buy thews video switcher. Then you would send me your main unit. Keep all the wires, remote, all that stuff... Ill send you my unit in return. It works perfectly, and as a matter of fact its the one featured in most of the RX8 gallery pics for the RX-8 Media Center. PM me if you are interested.
|
OK, you have another customer. Glad your back by the way ;) Your system is on my ever-expanding mod list. I have been busy lately once again customizing my ride. I will purchase the S-Video unit with your harness when you have it ready. Where will you post this availibility? In this thread? Or, on your website?
|
both..
i will make sure everyone knows |
Just got 2 Svideo units in.. One is for testing.. the other is up for grabs..
Its a good price for a great product. |
I was going through the website the $450 kit comes with a video back up also?
|
it comes with an input for the revers back up.. it is triggerd by your back up light circut. so you can plug any video camera in and it will turn on the input and show you what it sees when in reverse, you can also turn on that input when not in reverse. My friend calls it my Nascar cam

hello everyone...I bought the unit recently, and installed it in a few hours....and everything is working great! Thanks thew for walking me through the install, I got it working on the first time I started the car up :)!
I'll be posting an in depth DIY on the install so everyone can see it is easy to do, I actually had a lot of fun doing it and now my passengers thank me, and waiting around for someone isn't so bad anymore (I'm adding a xbox or carpc too :)) |
And you were the one that was kinda worried about hacking into the Harness.
I think after you show the DIY more peeps will see just how easy and safe it is. |
:)
|
Yeah, cutting the video wires to the LCD screen is not all that scary.
I wanted to vote in your poll, Thew, but I didn't see an option for "already did it." ;) |
ya i did all that to mine awhile ago and it works great. i read a lot of thews posts on it & i talked to AWillSea on the phone about some stuff. I still need to pick up a back-up camera one of these days...
|
i will be selling some nice cameras next month.. also i can get you the 2 that Avelectronics has on there site at my price. I just have not had time to add all the stuff to my site yet.
does anyone have a 3rd hand i can use for a few weeks. :) |
I mounted a camera I got off eBay just above my licence plate.
It took a 1-inch hole in the rear plastic and looks like it belongs there -- well, I did have to notch the top of the plate, but that's no biggie (at least to me). It comes on automatically when I shift into reverse and doesn't block the licence plate light. I rigged the wiring to shut off the l/p light when I'm in reverse to get rid of lens flare at night. |
yes.. i will have some nice ones soon.. i am adding to my system.. My 2nd camera will be in the rear window up high looking back. it will be a true aspect lens so no Fish eye :)
Nascar cam :) I will mount it in the rear head liner. Pics to follow when it happens |
Thew...is the kit really that easy to install? BTW...I have a Mazda3...is the walk thru pretty similar? Do you know of a place that would do it cheaply in the LA area? Thanks!
|

Price drop on Nav Switcher for the Holidays.
$495.99 While they last . |
Thew, I'm afriad I already know the answer to this, but let me see if I have this right. The kit you have with the PIE adaptor and everything looks cool, but does it use use the CD-Changer Control input? The reason I ask is because I'm going to buy a Neo Ion for my iPod to interface to my HU and it uses the Cd changer input. If I already have that in place, can the iPod/Neo play nice with the PIE adaptor that comes with the AV Electronics setup?
|
The Neo Ion (rebadged Denison Icelink w/Pie I'll explain) Mazdaparts was going to sell but the interface is problematic, it freezes the HU and requires u to turn off the power to the car and restart...in fact I personally was going to get it for my car when I decided I'll just save my money and put it towards modding a used xbox.
There is a way to splice into the Neo Ion's cable to get the Stereo signal, but it is a pain, I'd do it though if I had to. One thing to know is that the Neo Ion uses the Pie box. What you are actually buying is the Neo Ion for the Alpine M-bus connector then it connects to the Pie box (neo rebadges this and sells it as a package). On some of the pie units that come with it are RCA inputs but they have been deactivated by Neo. If you can the best thing you could do is get just the pie, use the aux in and the avswitcher, and a remote control for your ipod that you mount in the center console near the shifter (or on top of the console if u don't want to dremel it)...your right hand is far more free than your left. But it is up to you, the Neo Ion as a concept is cool, I wish it worked and displayed track information and text but sadly it doesn't. For the price and hassle I couldn't swallow it. If your heart is set on the Ion then there is a way you can get them all to place nice I'm sure...a switch could be used between the PIE and the Neo's hardware. Finally if u haven't seen it yet check out the DIY I did (link in Signature) for the avelectronics switcher, you may have seen it already...that might push you for the video since it really is awesome :) |
I'm definitley going to get the AV video, I already bought the PS2 in preparation. My iPod is on the way and I really want to be able to use the steering and head unit controls that the Neo offers. I really want to get both systems to work to their full potential though. I saw a "bargain" version of video adaptor. This is prolly the way I'll go because I can't ever see wanting a backup camera or a gajillion monitors all over the place enough to actually buy those things. To me the full blown Video solution looks sweet, but would it be overkill for sure. Nice DIY btw, Magellen. If you do one for the bargain AV, I will use it for sure. Although the one you did already is adaptable enough, I think.
|
did u see the bargain version on Mazdaparts? it has one input and then a second backup cam input.
http://www.mazdaparts.com/ProductDet...000-1128838719 The DIY will be the same :) just a few less inputs and outputs, no big deal...I want to get the bargain system for my girlfriend's Mazda3 with Nav she'd love it. |
