MM,

I PM'ed Sean several times, and I even included a tracking number with which I sent you the fuel injectors. I emailed you like you asked, I PM'ed you. So do you mind please communicating as to what the problem was. I had even spoken with Ray, and he said that you had to send them off to KG Parts. I sent you my old fuel injectors back in July 2009. We are now in Jan 2010. I would still like my $150.00 back for what you told me you would give me.

That's why you just send your injectors to kg parts yourself for $25 a piece for them to be reworked, flowed, cleaned, etc....
GL dude.

I just got a very long mail from MM.

Thanks for that Jeff.
I am confident the remaining problems get solved.

Well you should seriously consider it. Like it or not you've been called out in public by your customers and how you respond (and not responding while your customers continue to ask repeatedly IS a response) defines you as a business man.

Otherwise it's not my intent to argue or get into a pp match. I've always considered you a friend and my personal business with you has always been positive to the Nth degree. Previous comments deleted.

Unhappy MazdaManiac, bad guy? I don't want to say it!

I'm writing this because I've been waiting for my custom base cal from Jeff for about 6 weeks now. I got an email a few weeks back indicating he was sending my customized base calibration in a few moments. I still have not received it and have repeatedly tried to contact Jeff to get this calibration. I'm sitting in dead water until I get it. I'm not saying I think Jeff is a bad guy, but I do need to draw attention to this so I can get moving with my tuning. I hope Jeff will read this, or have it pointed out to him so he can get my calibration. It is time for me to re-up my calibration service with him which runs out this month, April. But I'm not going to pay for the service again until I get a base calibration that I desperately need.

I don't want to start a war or taint anybody's name or reputation so I want to give the opportunity to make good on delivery of my calibration. I am patient, but I really think the wait has been far too long, considering that the turn-around is supposed to be 10 days. If anyone has any suggestions how I can get in contact with Jeff, or get him to send my cal, please let me know. This has become very frustrating for me.

I have sent Jeff another email to the ap email address today. I'm hoping to get a timely response. If Jeff is ill, or has some other issues that prevent him getting to the work, then I understand, but I would appreciate knowing what is holding up my cal.

are you waiting for the calibration to be emailed to you, or did you go to the website to download your calibration from your folder and find nothing was there?

Your an F-ing idiot. This guy paid MM a year before the **** was shipped. Thats plenty of time to see if sufficient funds are available to honor the check. What a douche bag you are. This guy got screwed out of almost $700. I for one have sent numerous emails to MM over the couple years I have had my 8. I never got 1 reponse. I was interested in purchasing the Cobb. I have simply given up. If the guy isn't willing to answer a simple question before a spend $700 I am not purchasing **** from him.

I don't know how much of the thread you've read, but I updated the first post - I did eventually get the AP.

I wouldn't take you on as a customer anyway. I'm not interested in babysitting people. So, no problem there.

yeah i been trying to get some things myself.. but hey at least that makes you research and learn it on your own right?
soon we wont need MM just learn how to do stuff on your own man. Its tough but it can be done.
Or just find someone else. Idk why people here whine so much get your money back and go elsewhere.. Or wait it out. I baught my AccessPORT knowing i was gonna wait a while.. (baught one in 2007) and re purchased another one recently..
and the wait was long then and it isnt any different now. just simplified how we send our logs. I think ive waited a month already.. I know someone who has waited two months..

ok, I'm just going to post my observations here, and I really hope it doesn't **** anyone off as I plan to use MM's AP tuning service this summer. Maybe it's because I'm an old fart, but I was raised in a time where merchants had the opinion that the customer is always right, and bent over backwards to satisfy the customers. I've been reading for weeks before I joined here, and as near as I can tell MM looks at many customers as an inconvenience. I'm sure it can be frustrating, but making customers look and feel stupid doesn't seem like the best strategy. If you are charging hundreds of dollars for your service and racking up hundreds of services a week while trying to go it alone, perhaps it's time to hire some help. if not help doing the tunes, maybe just someone for customer relations as that doesn't appear to be your strong point. if you aren't interested in growing your business, then maybe set a cap and tell peeps you aren't taking any new customers until you catch up a bit. ultimately it's up to you, but I've been in management for over 20 years and I would love to see you far more successful than you are now, and it's within your reach.

well as far as i can remember, MM does his free tuning on own time with the purchase of the accessport. For those who pay the addition for the tunes go on top of list.

I understand its a pain in the *** waiting and waiting for the tunes, but follow the steps and instructions and send them to the right email and you should'nt have any problems..

Now a days you have to tell people straight up your an idiot, READ THE PRINT!! and they still cant figure it out! those people should not be ordering something so simple to use with step by step procedures..

later,

from what i am aware now the AccessPORT is like around 400 bucks or so...
If you order through MM itll cost about 630ish with his tuning service extra charge.
Still waiting a month + to get a re calibration . I dont think they are in the top priority.

I remember when he used to do it for free but it was over whelming i can imagine lol.. i would charge myself!

Jeff never did it for free. He just simply was able to purchase the AP at a price point that allowed him to make up his tuning costs between there and the AP minimum price. When they dropped the minimum price of the AP he no longer could make it up so he had to charge for it. Everyone, whether they purchase the AP from him or just his tuning service, get the same prioritisation for tunes. He operates on a first come first serve basis. If you want to get your tune faster you have to pay for Jeff to either do a dyno day near you or work with him so you can show up at his house.

Do you know what the mark up is on the AccessPORTS?

it's pretty consistent across vendors, that's for sure... at least it was 2 years ago. When I bought mine I had two choices.

1. Direct from COBB with NO TUNE whatsoever -- ATR wasn't out so there wasn't even a base tune available for my 4AT.

2. MM at the same price -- get to help work out kinks with the AP firmware (COBB still had some bugs at the time) and get about a years worth of tuning from Jeff.

It's been just as much an academic process for me as one of necessity for the wellbeing of my 8. I eventually did a face to face dyno tune with him up in Canada too. Not a fanboi... I just recognize the market and some of its nuances.

For the most part it is what you make of the situation.

It is sad what happened with the OP... definitely some odd circumstances but it looks like things did balance in the end.

I do and it ain't much. Certainly not enough to meet the BHR model when one considers the risk level involved in what he assumes as a tuner compared to the net earnings. Not to mention the sheer volume that is involved. This is why you don't see anyone else making serious inroads in offering a competitive service. If it were easy, there are a BUNCH of self-proclaimed tuners around here who have been critical of MazdaManiac but whom have also failed to fill the market void by offering services of their own.

I know Jeff has languished in his ability to get new calibrations "out the door", so to speak (and it drives me ******* crazy), but we are doing what we can to reassign/reallocate the labor involved and help him get things caught up and better organized.

He is a pretty damned good tuner but orgaization isn't one of his better skills.

Let's not forget that he often destroys his own engine on the racetrack as a necessary element of the R+D needed to further understand the strengths and weaknesses of the Renesis. Then the BHR team has to get together and help remove/rebuild/reinstall the damned thing. This takes time, too.

If anyone wants to see the behind-the-scenes operation of MazdaManiac/BHR, we always have an open invitation as I have a spare bedroom. You get to Phoenix's Shy Harbor Airport with a bag of personals and we take care of the rest while you are here.

+1 to what CRH said. Ever since the price drop the markdown has been pretty minimal to make any real profit. Especially considering how much time, effort, and money MM has contributed to better understand the Rx8.
Now I am not a BHR fanboi like some of you assume ppl to be because they come to the defense of MM. But hate him or like him you have to respect the fact that his research and knowledge has been a great contribution to this community.
