CO Need Help!! Prosport Gauges/ Rb Adapters

Hey all,

I'm installing my Prosport water temp, oil temp and oil pressure gauges today. I don't have any instructions! I called Prosport last week, but they still haven't called me back. Does anyone have instructions on wiring the gauges?

Even more important, Does anyone have RB water temp and oil temp/pressure adapter install instructions? The other threads aren't detailed enough for someone as lost as me.

no, they don't have peak. I don't know the model, but they are smoked lenses with silver bezel if that helps

the prosport adapters have 1/8" senders so you may need to get some fittings to make them work with the RB adapters. the RB adapters i belive have 3/8"NPT threads(the RB water temp adapter i know is, not sure about the oil adapter). you can get the fittings from home depot or lowes. you also want to pickup some teflon tape to wrap the threads.

would you be able to take some detailed pics of what you have? if you can get the pics i might be able to confirm the wiring is the same as the premium gauges.

Awesome Nuke!! Thanks so much for the help! I thought I was going to have to work blindfolded today

I wonder if RB would mind if we posted the instructions?

There is already a Prosport installation thread found HERE, but this write up is just a supplement.



The Prosport Gauges have five wires: red, orange, black, white and green. For anyone installing the gauges, install as follows:

1. red and white wires from all the gauges can both be connected to the yellow wire from your cigarette lighter (12V power wire)

2. black wire from the gauge is wired to the black/red wire from the cigarette lighter (ground)

3. orange from the gauge is wired to red/orange wire from the cigarette lighter light bulb (switch power which energizes when the headlights are turned on, turns the gauges from white to amber at night)

4. green from each of the gauges goes to the adapter of their respective sensor module under the hood. Make sure to ground them properly

Question - I bought the Premium Oil Temp guage in Amber/White and was wondering if there is a way to sync up the color of the lights to the headlights? So like when the headlights are off, the prosport is white, and when I turn the headlights on, the prosport will turn amber? Is that possible? Or way too complicated...

One thing to make sure of it that you are all using in-line fuses with these gauges. The gauges don't seem to respond well to any kind of electrical surges. I have had 2 prosport gauges burn out on me despite the wiring being done by someone I would deem an "expert" in electronics.

The second gauge nearly caught fire because of a short on the gauge.

I am still running pro-sport gauges only because of the massive amounts of time invested in the wiring and running the sensors. I've not been satisifed with the accuracy of these gauges either. These gauges are fine if you're looking for a warning threshold only but if you're looking for anything to take any kind of data you're better off with something else.

The Prosports have a wacky lighting logic - the orange wire turns the gauges amber, but any power on the white turns the face white and it won't turn amber again until the power to the gauge is removed (ignition off).

The secret, not mentioned in the instructions, is that if you don't connect either wire, the face stays a dim red, and an exact match for the centre console's night illumination.

I wired mine to a single pole, double throw switch - power from the lighter supply goes to the center pole and the other poles are to the orange and white wires.
When the switch is UP, I get white daylight illumination, when it's DOWN I get orange evening glow, but if I leave the switch in the middle I get the dim red nighttime driving-in-the-countryside-with-mainbeams glow. The amber is way too bright for serious night driving.
My six gauges would give anyone night-blindness.

(edit - agree with Flashwing about the accuracy, the boost gauge sits two psi away from 'actual' unless you tap it - sad.)

There's a few of us here local in Phoenix that have prosport because the cost/benifit was pretty good or so we thought. We found on average the sender wires were putting out about 20 ohms of resistance when they should have been near zero. This, for one person was causing water temps to read 160 degrees when they were 180 or 190 according to the PCM.

The only solution was wiring up another grounding wire to the senders which restored some accuracy. My gauges are now within about 8 degrees of the coolant sensor which is fine for threshold temps. I mainly just want to know when I'm approaching the edge of temps on the track.

I'm not sure of the reasons why but i can change my prosports colours with the lights switch. Lights off-> white \ lights on->amber\orange.
This only happens if i have a strong battery though, now i have a weak battery in my car and i have to wait a couple of minutes before turning the lights on, or the gauges won't change color again
I connected them to the ashtray's light, if this can help.
Could it be that you can't do this because you have lights always on when you turn on the car? I remember that some cars in northern america had this feature.

Anyway, what do you mean by "tapping" the boost gauge?

Ahh! You see, you don't have the red option....

Tapping means when you turn the car off, the gauge goes to 'minus two' instead of sitting at zero, then when you tapit with your finger the needle jumps to zero.

Will it stay precise after that or not? I might go FI sooner or later (adding a rb pod) and i might want to keep the same look for the gauges, or i might go digital and call it a day!

Do you think in-line fuses are necessary even if we use the cig lighter power? It's fused..

Wait! I'm confuse.
If you connect both red and white wires to cigarette lighter which will be off as soon as key is out.

Aren't your gauges just power down without any closing ceremony?

Do they suppose to display peak load and then say bye to you before turning off?


Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't have Prosport gauge.
But I'm looking into into it replace my old Swoosh gauges set up because they are not fully-function on 8. (can't connect one "ON" circuit that 8 does not have.
