Balancing wheels, and shaved tires.
Balancing wheels, and shaved tires.
Yesterday, I was attempting to balance a set of wheels wearing some new tires which had been shaved. I was having a lot of difficulty. I have never balanced a wheel with a shaved tires before, so I am assuming the trouble is an inconsitency in the shaving. I have never had to add more than 3/4 grams to a wheel before, but it was asking for 4-5 grams total on some wheels.
Is this fairly normal for a shaved tire? or are they poorly shaved?

Well, I took one wheel and rotated the tire 90 degrees, then checked the balance. I did this 3 times yesterday, and it made no significant difference in the balancing.
I think we're right, after talking to some people, it's just a shitty shaving job. I've been told with a good shave job you can still expect to use upto 2-2.5 grams to balance.
