Anyone Remember?

Does anyone remember when we were discussing the ECU change that Mazda said was supposed to occur at 15,000km? Some reported noticing a difference, others (including myself) saw no detectable change.

Anybody have a link to that discussion thread or to Mazda's statement regarding this?

Thanks!

Mazda has never said there was supposed to be a tuning change at any specific mileage interval. Any time that suggestion has been brought up, it has always been third-party speculation, ie "my dealer told me..." or "I heard from a guy...". There has never been any official Mazda information about such a switch, and I seriously doubt that there is any tuning changeover.

Regards,
Gordon

Cool Yes....

I also remember that theory, but I didn't believe it then either....

I heard 10k, then 15, then 20k and 20k MILES.

I just passed 17k kilometres, and there doesn't seem to be any difference....but I also got 'L' flashed and couldn't see any difference from that either!

My 'butt-dyno' is all worn out......

The same idea is running in the german forum, but at different milages.
If there would be any reason mazda would do this, then it would be worth to speculat about it, but honesly I think this Idea does not make sense of any kind. Just imagine if you would do this to construct a car that does not give it all when all the magazins test it, but does it when you allready thinking of selling it.

Well, they did it in the 2nd gen RX-7 with a mechanical switch on the odometer. I think it was on the Turbo only, and was supposed to limit boost, as I recall. I haven't seen anything on my 3rd gen RX-7 that would do this. I haven't seen anything in the RX-8 shop manual(s) mentioning it either.

My guess is it's a holdover idea from the 2nd gen days. Lots of people "think" it does it because the 2nd gen did.

The second gen did that? How do you know? I've taken apart a half dozen TurboIIs and never seen anything that would do that. Then again I am a wannabe mechanic so maybe I missed it. Anyone heard of this? It's the first time I have.
