Two questions about the R3 Wheels

Is anyone here running 245/35/r19 tires on their stock R3 wheels?

Also, does anyone know what the weight of the wheel is without a tire?

Just two factors of many that may influence my decision to sell them in the future.

Thanks

No one knows the weights at least? I've searched the darkened corners of the internet for it, scarring myself for life.

I'll just take the wheel off and weigh it myself and report back i guess

Only r3 models come those wheels, there aren't many r3 rx8s much less people who actually bother to take off the wheels right after purchasing the car to wright them.
The old shinka 18 inch wheels weight around 24 lbs so I suspect the r3 wheels should be lighter than that.

No, don't sell them. The R3 wheels look so awesome..

Yet, after viewing and reading your opening post in your FS thread, I can understand and respect your opinion of thinking that the R3 wheels are a bit 'busy' looking.

Good luck, partner. (And sorry, I wouldn't know the exact weight of the wheel)

r3 wheels are very similar to oem wheels, which i think are 22 lbs or so. they don't weigh (much) more even though they're 19's as far as i know.

i did the math and research once, and while I don't remember the answer, I know 27lbs is way heavy for the R3's...

Tire weight is the real issue. Research the weight of the tire you are looking at versus other brands. My stock 18x8 wheels with a 245/40-18 Raptis WR-1 weighed 46.0lbs.

The stock potenzas should be 26lbs approximately.

I believe the AD08s I will be ordering are roughly the same weight (+/- 1lb), even though they are larger.

Almost done work for the day, then I'll pull the cover off the car and remove the wheel to be weighed.

With a 26lb tire, the wheel weighs ~21.5lbs.

I had two scales, one analog and one digital. The analog scale was the only one that could weigh the wheel and it was a bit old so I weighed myself on it and the more accurate digital scale. The difference was about 2.18% lower for the analog scale.

The wheel weighed in at 46.5lbs, multiplied by 1.0218 and subtract the weight of the 26lb tire, you get 21.51lbs. A bit heavier than I expected.

just funny to think about it when people obsessed about a couple pounds weight on the wheels when they keep adding weight to the car like stereos even the weight of the drivers themselves.

No joke there. I never understood that either. I could stand to loose a good 20 LBS (or more) off of my gut and that would benefit more than just the performance of my car! Plus the Bose sound system is quite good enough. Sure it isn't ear blowingly loud but it sounds alright.

I'm becoming obsessed over this stuff, but I'd never add dead weight like an upgraded stereo in :p

it's all true, but if you're upgrading... why not look into it?

most people don't use anything they have near their full potential, but they still want to spend the $$ on the best stuff they can afford... *shrug*

unless in a competition, I don't even think a few lbs is gonna make any difference. Yes a lighter rims and tires helps, but don't kill yourself over it. Unless you time urself everyday on the same route. Definitely recommend to spend the same attention at suspension settings rather than a few lbs difference in tires.

(Basically what everyone else is saying)

I remember on my last car, Civic, when I switched from the 19lb stock wheels to some 14lb Rotas Circuit8s that is seemed different. People can go on and on about rotational mass and the offset even a pound can do but seriously. If it were for a set that I primarily used for RR or Autox then I would look for the lightest based on the cost effectiveness of the purchase. Further than that is OCD and a waste of money that could benefit other aspects of your car. Go with what you like that is at least lighter than stock and looks good. No chrome and no spinners diggity-dawg. =P

unsprung weight ie wheels and tires. is the most important weight u can loose, 1 lb is worth 5-10 or something like that, for acceleration handling etc etc

in regard to selling them, i was talking to the local mazda dealer last time i went in to get an oil filter and he said they cost $750 EACH to replace them. consider that when you start getting low-ball offers. i considered replacing them and just putting them in storage after hearing that
