Ok, so Im looking for options to better my Mazda. I spoke to someone on the phone at Paradise Racing who claims that this oil filter will last several years by just cleaning the filter. The filter will also increase oil pressure. Does increasing the oil pressure make the rotary run better, smoother, more efficiently? When I spoke to somebody there today, I asked if this would work on a Series 2, since his website says it works for a RX8( no series specification) . He told me he would have to research it. Any who, I may take the risk for I could save money down the line by not having buying authentic series 2 oil filters. My post is mainly centered around the inquiry of if the benefits are truly merited. Could this filter really better my mazda? Im not looking for a dramatic change, just pursuing a feeling of knowing my rx8 is more realiable after the install. Thanks

Increasing pressure at the filter means you have turned the filter into a flow restriction. I would have serious concerns about restricting flow after the filter.

Besides, your S2 already has the higher pressure than the S1, why would you want to increase the pressure further?

I'm not too educated when it comes to engine internals., That being said, I don't really know what you mean RIWWP. The marketing of this product makes it seem like this filter could be beneficial, as reflected from this quote in the product description "Unlike your old restrictive “””Paper Element””” Filters, the HFMR-1 has a Hi-Flow Stainless Steel Mesh Element. The result of this is an increase in oil pressure of 8 to 12 psi and an increase in flow of 10 to 12 gpm!!!"

Oh. They are claiming that a lower restriction oil filter will result in higher pressure past the filter.


I don't know of washable filters causing harm, though generally a bit more hassle with proper cleaning methods, making sure the filter is dry before reinstallation, etc...

Don't bother, just run an OEM filter. K.I.S.S. (I wish I had followed my own advice).

They have NO mention of filtering performance, so I'd guess that based on the lower restriction claims that it filters much worse than OE, so that's a big fail in my books. Plus, you can buy lots of OE filters for the price of one of those.

For this engine, I'd use OE only. If you really must change and want something that you can disassemble, maybe a Canton spin on filter would work? I used a tall one briefly on my old FC in a remote location. At least they give some indication of good filtering ability to 8 microns.

Think of the bearing clearances (very small), you want the filter to remove anything above 1/2 the clearance or so, otherwise those particles can cause damage.

I think they say 40 Microns....my only issue is how do you clean it so it doesn't get the crap on the wrong side of the filter

I have a Canton filter...and I have had good results with it as well

Sounds like an entire lot of gobble di gook to me, and backwards.

Why would you go through the hassle of cleaning out a mesh oil filter type for reuse.

Just put on what your car style is meant to use, (an S2 full flow fully disposable Oil Filter from Mazda) why overcomplicate something that will give you unproven benefit.

It is an OIL FILTER which has one simple task.
