NEED HELP FAST intake problem

Ok my girl friend just got the car a few weeks ago and i installed an intake with just a filter and used mass air tube from stock box. does anone know about the vacume thing the goes from the black box between throttle body amd mass air to some type of check valve or something then to some type of sensor and then to some strange contraption that looks like some type of actuator of some sort. when i installed the intake i remove all of than and just capped off the vacume hose when cam out of the black box. it ran fine for the first day with a little back fire, and no it will not idle, it just dies. i need help fast please tell me what to do and if i did something i need to redo

Sounds like the VFAD vac line and VFAD duct. Just plug it where it exits the manifold and it should be OK. If the car doesn''t idle...you may have not designed an effective intake. Some of the early K&N units and others didn't idle well. It's not as simple as just slapping on a filter..........

what you need to do is put back the stock airbox.

just plug the line and make sure your not getting any air leaks that would bypass the MAF

lol i feel really stupid. ok hears the situation and screw you about the "$30k sports car and $20 intake" it not a 30K car its a 20K used car that she is paying 10K for, or wil be after intrest. and the $30 filter flows way better than stock. so keep your comments to your self, i was just asking for help if you can't pleas don't post. and no this is not the first forum i have registered to i am member of more than 10 others and have been for years.

now to the others i appologize about that, it has been a while since i was anew member on a board and i'm not used to dealing with those kind of people, i have earned my respect on the rest of the boards i'm a member of.

the situation is this, i recently moved to another state (2hrs away) for school and my girl friend soon to be fiance will be mooving this winter. well after the i installed the intake and it ran fine for two days i had to come back. for school. well yesterday is when the car started acting like that. my gf likes cars and all but doesn't have a clue about anything under the hood and i had asked a friend to help her out and take alook but he didn't turns out that friend had helped me with the intake and wasthe one who supposedly "tightened" the filter she finally looked under the hood and the filter was hanging off half way, she put it back on and its running fine. i am going back tonight for a day and i will finish the aluminum box i am working on for it and i will try and get some pics up to see what you guys think, and i am using a filter from autozone as much as i despise tha place its the only place in Meridian MS that carrys aftermarkt car accessories. i am going to get an airinx filter. the car is blue she wants it to match i would go with APEXi i don't mind spending on money on the car ijust don't like K&N and am not paying $400 for an intake) and don't really even have the money to spend even 200 on her car.

here is alink to mine i am still ording parts for the build up that will hopefully be done my december its going to XAT racing in tampa on NOV 4 for the engine swap a few things (mostly the thibgs that don't have pics, and thats not all that is getting done just all i had time to put on there, it will be updated with pics and a full list once its complete

Before you go through all the trouble and headaches, buy a used intake of this forum or e-bay, I am sure you can find one for around a $100. because after you rig it up and buy a filter or two you will have already sent that plus some.

at the approximate top speed of 150 due to aerodynamics and the horsepower of the car, you will maybe see .1 mph increase. it will have a better throttle response as the intake will be less restrictive, but will still be sucking in hot air, and yes it will be much louder

the owner lives in Meridian MS there isn't a dyne for many many miles and i don't really want to pay for one, i do however want to take it with us when we go to Tampa to get pick my celica back up up from XATand hopefully get them to dyno it

and once i get the box built it will not be getting hotter air it will be almost just like the HKS kit that sells for 450+.

hey there, i have no help on the installation but i did put just a huge filter on my rx....just the basic intake and besides being obnoxiously loud it actually felt like the car lost power at high rpms soooo needless to say i took that thing right out and ordered the full REVi ram air kit. and i must say its making a world of difference.....itslightly louder than normal for regular driving but when u blast it it has this deep throaty intake sound. very high quality sounding unlike the honda sound that every other intake produces for this car. the RAM air duct is great and keeps the cold air coming all the way up through 9000 for constant power. so far its great but thos other generic intakes with the huge filters just dont seem to mesh well with the car. im not the authority on it but i have tried both on my car and id spend the extra bucks for the racing beat REVi system. good luck

To tell you the truth i would if it were mine and i had a good reason to spend alot on the car but its my GF's and its not like she is racing or anything. heres the thing, the intake i put on is really quite like stock at low rpms and everyday slow driving, but when you get on its very very throwty and sounds very mean, it actually makes it sound like it has an aftermarket exhaust, no where near what a honda is like.

and i do plan on getting the Greddy turo kit some time next year so i don't want to have spend money one something that has to be replaced. money is just really tight with as much stuff as i am getting on my Celica so thats why i am not buying an intake

thanks for all your help
i'll let you guys know if i need any more help like with the turbo install or anything thanks again
